He also reminds me of the young bums in a King of the Hill episode - they weren't homeless, they just begged for change from passerby, bumping the "real" (old, Vietnam vet) bums from their corners.

Visually, at least.

This is fresh on my mind about volunteering, and my volunteer job dealing with poor people. I had to read many forms, often with the why. It was depressing and terrifying to see how fast you can crash.

Because you were too lazy. Seeing the poverty across generations was horrible, but the worst was those who were mentally challenged, but not enough for decent care.

You can't work on anything like that and still think it's matter of "you're poor because you want to be". The place where I worked wasn't quick or convenient. We were open 4 hours a day, 3 days a week, and people waited much longer than 4 hours, missing a day of work, if they were that lucky. Of course, I don't think the center could afford to be open longer.

Which is why I'd much volunteer at an animal shelter.Kaitlynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13279904127449708251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33297721.post-33077084085683599252008-08-30T11:35:00.000-07:002008-08-30T11:35:00.000-07:00Mallard's contemplating offering that guy a sandwi...Mallard's contemplating offering that guy a sandwich if he'll participate in Mallard's new Bum Fights video.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18274420553166101483noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33297721.post-10745884686287148752008-08-30T09:54:00.000-07:002008-08-30T09:54:00.000-07:00This guy is the worst artist! Where's the ratty old coat, the patches?

This guy looks more like a frat-rat waiting in line for Eagles tickets.

I do love how Mallard is just standing there staring at him, because that's what we do, right? We see some poor unfortunate with a sign lying on the sidewalk, and we stop and stare for a while.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33297721.post-21103013259759575472008-08-30T05:20:00.000-07:002008-08-30T05:20:00.000-07:00And he's back to one panel.Compare with Doonesbury...And he's back to one panel.

Compare with Doonesbury's four panels (http://www.doonesbury.com/strip/
dailydose/index.html?uc_full_date=20080830).
