That damned Motion Picture

What's Mallard raving about today?

Movies, Remakes

Mallard Fillmore hates the Free Market.

Even when I agree with Batshit--and in this case I do*--i am compelled to point out that (1) he's only "speaking truth to power" after the subject of "remake fatigue" has been beaten to death by every other person on the planet with an opinion, and (2) this is hilarious coming from Batshit, whose daily serving of The Same Old Crap changes only in that it grows steadily worse over time.

*...To an extent. There are fully justified remakes/sequels and the occasional superior one to boot. Most, however, remain brain-dead cash-grabs.

Nice to show movie audiences -- i.e., the bulk of Americans -- as brain-dead slobs.

Today's "Mallard Fillmore" is not a remake.

Or maybe it is. Who cares? A single panel with a single line of text (plus "oooh") for a Sunday Strip is just lazy.

OTOH Doonesbury nailed it ... again!

Shouldn't that message have been displayed on the movie screen rather than being announced by a narrator? Think about it: a black silhouette of the audience in front of the screen, with the "Ooooh" word balloon at the bottom of the panel (think Mystery Science Theater 3000). It's pretty sad that Brucie can't even think of a more creative way to be lazy.

C'mon, people! He put at least six minutes of work into this one!

WV: digwayst; online Mallard is a waste of digits

Bruce is just mad because Hollywood's rehashes still tend to be far more creative and interesting than his.

@Frank is right! It took LITERALLY five minutes to redo this in MST3000 format ... using MS Paint f'gosh sakes!

Today's strip is not a rerun. Technically.

Tinshley, meanwhile, will still sit through the remake of Straw Dogs*, failing to understand why nobody else in the theater is rooting for the vicious, tormenting rednecks.

* Who am I kidding? He'll wait till it's on TV, where he can watch in his whiskey-stained** underpants.

** Christ, I hope that's whiskey.
