That damned Chance

What's Mallard raving about today?

Mitt Romney, Presidential Debates, Bob Schieffer

Just noting that no one of championship calibre would ever blame the referee.

Which explains why the entire Republican establishment has blamed the debate moderator for their performance in the last two debates.

"Make him look uninformed and indecisive"? Hell, Bruce, Romney hardly needs the moderator's help with that; he's doing a fine job all by his lonesome.

Is this one the Romney vs Romney debate? Oh, I hope the temporarily decent one wins! He'd make a swell president. Not like the mean Romney we see going through life, governing, and talking to other Republicans.

Anyone surprised that this "cartoon" completely missed how the 1st debate turned out?

The moderator had a long and distinguished history as a reporter, but he wasn't any good as a moderator. Romney's blatant lying about his past record should have made his pants explode into flames.

Here we see Tinsley playing with the tropes of the political cartoon format.

Whereas caricatures are usually based on universally-recognizable personalities, and often labeled with their own names in-panel to guarantee the identity is well established, the unnamed moderator's face in this strip no more closely resembles its presumed inspiration, non-celebrity Bob Schieffer, than any other white man in his seventies.

By the way, Bruce: Thanks for pointing out that you were willing to produce a strip about the third presidential debate weeks in advance, but you weren't willing to do the same for 9/11. Once again, you demonstrate with crystal clarity how priorities work in Tinsleyland.

The Repub strategy is to lower funding for referees, then complain when the scab does a bad job. Not that this happened here...
