SUNDAY

So, video games, movies, TV, celebrities--the only thing that doesn't cause gun violence is guns. It's an even stupider argument coming after a week of Skeet Shootin' Kenyan.

Hey, Bruce: back in the Renaissance artists invented a thing called "perspective." You might want to look into that sometime this decade.

CW in LA said...

I feel dirty saying this, but for once I semi-agree with Brews: It's hard to point to anyone who's done more to promote the notion that gunplay is the solution to all life's problems than Hollywood.

That said, of the people who've made the most money off glamorizing guns - e.g., Willis, Stallone, Herr Gropenführer - have any of them bothered to make anti-gun violence spots?

Andrew said...

I have no data to back this up (so, yeah, this is pretty much on par with any MF strip)- but I'll bet you all the money in my pocket against all the money in your pocket that the percentage of NRA members who LOVE movie which "glorify gun violence" is pretty damn high.

Oh, liberal strawmen -- is there any debate with you Mallard can't win?

Spiro Agduck! Monday February 26 One panel

[Box] The president gets money from unions. I *HATE* unions!

President Obama: "A handful of unions representing less than 10% of the workforce, mostly for low-paid work, control me because they're the money I depend on."

Thank you! I'll be here all week. Remember to tip the veal and try your waitress. Heh heh. -- Spiro Agduck!

Note: Whoever keeps coloring Spiro sometimes black and sometimes green, I hope your coloring factory has you beaten and doesn't let you go to the bathroom all day. There are more coolies out there where you came from. -- Bruce Tipsy

The actual state of the union address, it was a while ago, wasn't it?

But yes, it's horrible when a politician accepts campaign contributions from unions. Everyone knows true statesmen accept funding only from large corporations, organizations for gun fanatics and/or religious wackadoodles, and individual billionaires whose worldviews make Mr. Burns look like a bleeding heart pinko. Oh, and booze manufacturers, huh, Tinsh.

Oh no! The Earth has been flung somewhere by a giant wooden catapult! It's what? A comet?

Then why didn't he just draw a comet? Well. Maybe by Saturday it'll look better.

Who am I kidding. By Saturday, it'll look like a yoyo. He always copies his drawing from the day before.

TUESDAY
Bruce used a pun. That's almost a joke! Those of you playing the Mallard Fillmore Drinking Game at home, put down your bottle.

Why should workers have a voice? Fuck them. Right, Bruce?

At that time, Randy, the GOP had not yet been taken over by the people who (I swear I'm not making this up) considered Ike "a dedicated, conscious agent" of the International Communist Conspiracy, as complicit as the Democrat [sic] Party* in the total Communist takeover of the State Department, the public schools and the water supply.

* I've said it before, maybe even here, and I'll say it again whenever I can, until I no longer have to: isn't it nice of glorps, drobes and other disembrained bodies to have these little tells, like using "Democrat" as an adjective, to let anyone who's even remotely intelligent and/or aware know not to take them seriously?

Meanwhile, "Doonesbury" is re-running its myFACTS series this week. Synchronicity's fun, isn't it?

TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY: I couldn't get the link to the "comic" to work, but found at the Jewish World Review.

TUESDAY:
Mallard actually has a joke in it. I disagree with his whiney assertion that global warming is as fake as GOP tax policy, but at least there's an identifiable joke, which makes it the best Mallard Fillmore all year, probably all decade.

WEDNESDAY:
Mallard's accusing the Democrats of going after the "low-information voter" who have been a staple of GOP's base for decades. I would suspect that the memo's gone around to denature the LIV meme by the usual reichwing tactic of saying "Hey you're doing what you say I'm doing", except that Mallard Fillmore is reliably late to the party and I haven't seen this elsewhere. But it may happen ...

... and the punchline of Wednesday's "joke" is just stupid. The GOP is one of the most toxic brands anywhere; for the Democrats to associate themselves with the Republicans at all would be completely irrational. I'm not saying that the DNC might not try it, because they have a looooooong history of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, but it's not plausible enough to be funny.

Other than that, this is two identifiable jokes in a row (and neither of them racist or otherwise hateful, merely wrongheaded) ... surely this is a Mallard Fillmore record!
---

BY THE WAY: if you're looking for how a real classy comedian handles stuff, look at Jon Stewart's apology and correction to Dick Molpus - Stewart screwed up, apologized on the air for an entire segment, and mocked himself relentlessly for it. It's both funny and instructive.

CW in LA said...

Wasn't our Anonymous Racist Coward, following as always the lead of his lard-assed overlord, accusing us of being low-information voters a little while back?

That's been Lardbutt's explanation for why the president he's spend the last four years b!tching about didn't fail like he hoped, low-information voters. It almost makes sense, if by "information" you mean Teahadi propaganda.

A new Pew poll suggests over a full third of Republicans think their own party is out of touch with the American people, while two-thirds consider their party "open to change."

Dear Mr. Tinsley, feel free to ignore that poll because it doesn't "skew" the way you like and keep pushing the TEA Party way as The Only Way; we've already seen what a winning formula THAT is.

Anyway, speaking of apologies; Between (1) the parody-article in TheOnion referring to a nine-year-old girl a "c***," (2) Assemblyman Dov Hikind's "blackface" stunt, and (3) a Progress Kentucky volunteer's idiotic and vile racist tweets about Mitch McConnell's wife, expect a long-term round of triumphant I NOT RACIST U R!!1 from Bruce in two weeks.

Bruce will ignore the fact that (1) TheOnion apologized profusely for their "joke," (2) Hikind's a fake Dem who has backed the GOP candidate in every Presidential race since before Ronald Reagan, and (3) every liberal of note has blasted the racist tweets--rather than imitate normal GOP protocol, which is to circle the wagons.

In fact, it's the recent, occasional breakdown and questioning of that protocol that has Tinsley up in arms (figuratively, of course) about the future of the GOP in the first place.

But we all know by now that introspection ain't Tinsley's strong point.

rewinn said...

@Tog - what would introspection even *be* to a reichwinger?
Sometime like:
"Gee, my whole life philosophy is 'I'm ok, screw you!'"

Re Thursday: Better make sure you start getting your wingnut welfare check by direct deposit, eh, Bruce? I mean, just to be safe.

Bill the Splut said...

In a few more years: "What's a 'newspaper comic strip'?" Polish that resume, welfare queen.

Kip W said...

Not knowing the Gop talking points makes you "low information." Wait until "This political comic about a duck was a lightning rod for idiocy and may still be running somewhere" is the Final Jeopardy answer and nobody gets it.

Tog said...

Re my last post: This is the sort of thing that makes Tinsley fear for the future of the GOP.

...Not the attacks, but the party response to them.

Bill the Splut said...

What is with this dude's raging hate-boner for the USPS? Does he think the reason he's never gotten any fan mail is because the postman eats it? "And I'll bet that's why I never get any birthday or Christmas cards, either! It's only because he's a liberal that he doesn't steal my copy of Gun Masturbator Monthly!"

@Tog:
"GOP chair Tom Del Beccaro, Senate Minority Leader Bob Huff and Assembly GOP leader Connie Conway: “Blatant racism has no place in the party of Lincoln. We strongly denounce this hateful speech in this and any other venue.”"

Blatant racism, sure. Dog whistle "blah people" "food stamp president" racism, that's different!

CW in LA said...

Well, if you've ever been in a Post Office branch, you'll notice right away blah and mexican and woman people all over the place, not only working there, but earning a good, living wage doing it. Sets a bad example for the serfs.

Plus of course, Teh gubbmint = eeeeeeeeevil.

Kip W said...

FRIDAY
Tinsley has never been guilty of performance.

Kip W said...

SATURDAY
Mallard loves e-mail, because he can send an endless number of rumors and propaganda blasts to every single individual who's ever interacted to him with just one press of the "forward to all" button. He'd have to pay money to do that through the fascist USPS. Bastards. Why do they hate freedom?

SUNDAY

Because I couldn't wait: MOTHER OF GOD!! HOW INCOMPETENT CAN YOU GET, TINSLEY?!?

CW in LA said...

Sssshhhhh! - He'll take that as a challenge.

I hope he does airline food next.
