Well, he remembered this year.

Now that his war-veteran father's passed on, we'll see if "Silently Opposed" Tinsley is still as excited about taking care of the living ones as he is about pretending to honor the dead ones.

After all, the former costs money. Taxed Enough Already! Laffer Curve! Boo Nanny State!

Speaking of Taxed Enough Already, today's strip managed to match the IT'S ALWAYS PROJECTION levels of the George Fwill column with which it shared the Herald-Mail's editorial page. Or so I assume, given that all I read of the column was its headline: The NLRB's school-door stand.

I see Bruce was so eager to start doing his Poor Little Victim™ dance on behalf of the tea party that he decided to get his perfunctory Memorial Day strip out of the way a day early. Thanks for making it explicit who you believe the REAL heroes of our country are, Bruce.

Tog...At what point will we get veterans the benefits they have earned? 600,000 plus are still waiting after years.

Under Obama, the backlog has increased from 164,000 to 630,000. This is unacceptable. If we say, as the President said today that we should honor our servicemen, then honor them truly by giving them what they have truly earned. Don’t use them as a talking point, then fail them continuously behind the scenes

CW in LA said...

Sure, Anonyconcerntroll, the president personally saw to it that the backlog increased, and the grievous underfunding of veterans' services by congress doesn't have a thing to do with it.

As for our self-appointed Voice of the Oppressed Teabaggers, he is aware that the groups he claims have been persecuted are by law supposed to be both non-political and non-profit, and it is at best highly questionable whether they have followed that law, isn't he. I mean, he wouldn't be indulging in flagrant dishonesty just so he can claim a fat slice of victimhood, surely.

Neo Tuxedo said...

@Frank: I almost remembered to point that out, but I saw the juxtaposition I mentioned and the timing flew right out of my deeply brain-filled mind.

@CW: if your sarcasm went any further over Concernymous' alleged head, it would have to file a flight plan.

Please note that Anon isn't bothering Tinsley to push this agenda, despite Tinsley's access to a wider audience.

No, he just farts around with it when one of us dirty liberals brings it up.

Anyway. I'm sure NeoTuxedo and Frank are duly astounded by Tuesday's strip. Of course they're out to get you, Bruce/Mallard...you're at the top of Obama's "list"!

CW in LA said...

Y'see, Brews, just because the dudes who run the tavern and the liquor store say you're keeping them in business, that doesn't mean you can claim them as dependents...

Kip W said...

We can look forward to a solid week of martyrbation from Tinsley.

Only by "solid," we mean a panel a day, two strips a week. Why try harder?

Frank Stone said...

Re Tuesday: Oh, wow. This... I mean... wow...

So, um... ahem... do go on, Mallard; the sentence structure and ellipsis suggest more to come. By all means, regale us with your damning evidence that the IRS "targeted" you. I'll make popcorn.

Kip W said...

He got an envelope that said he might have already won a lot of money. But then he didn't win.

Sure, they didn't come right out and say it was the IRS that took his money and dream house away, but they didn't have to.

Neo Tuxedo said...

...Kip, will that internets be carry-out or delivery?

[heh, thanks]

WEDNESDAY

This is one heady brew, you should pardon the expression. You've got a solid base of projection, and the Automartyr Brigade is just wet with the injustice of all the mean crap they just know the Democrats must be up to — because they just know that that's how it rolled last time their party was in that position. Toss in a whiff of desperation over the failure of any of these horrendous scandals to take hold with the public. Add the flop sweat, and — not to dwell on it — the myriad other indicators of inner turmoil and outer squalor, and you'll get an odor cocktail that would make a skunk whimper.

Oh, and nice use of borrowed imagery for the hated Untermenschen of the IRS. I don't expect Tinsley ever actually saw Jud Süss, so it's just another amazing example of parallel inspiration.

A) Can anyone name one teabagger group that was denied tax-exempt status?

B) Can anyone name one teabagger group that used its tax-exempt status to raise anonymous money spent to promote political candidates?

ANSWER KEY:

A) No
B) Yes

Bill the Splut said...

Indeedy, why would the Infernal Rat Service look into a political group that wants a tax exempt status that's only for nonpolitical groups, screams "ME WANT PAY NO TAXES ON NOTHIN'!" as its platform, and also advocates violent overthrow of the government? Talk about unfair harassment! Oh, for those halcyon days when our elected officials shut down the evil ACORN! And tried to defund public television and Planned Parenthood and arrested people for having anti-Bush bumper stickers! Now that's small government!

Re Wednesday: Um, OK... if today's text is supposed to be a direct continuation of yesterday's, I guess it kinda sorta makes sense so far... but as the judge would say, "I'll allow it, but you'd better be going somewhere with this."

(BTW: A dirty rat to represent the IRS? Wow -- how many days did it take you to come up with that searingly insightful visual metaphor?)

THURSDAY

The GOP would have us believe that more black men are in jail because more of them are guilty. Why walk away from such a useful explanation? More GOP groups were tagged by the IRS because more of them were trying to use it as a dodge.

TURDS DAY

I was going to say something about the continuing co-option of "the Founding Fathers" by decerebrate simians who couldn't pick the Original Dads out of a police line-up, but I'm too tired to make it cohere, and anyway Kip W wins again.

Today's "Conservatives" are so ignorant about history that it's hard not to think that it's deliberate.

The Boston Tea Party threw 342 chests of UNTAXED tea into the harbor. They didn't object to the tax itself (it paid for defense against the French and Indians) but to the exemption that the British East India Company got through its connections in Parliament. That allowed the multinational to undercut Main Street small businessmen; sound familiar?

Today's Tea Party thinks that corporations that pay zero taxes are still taxed too much. They are on the side of the British East India Company.

>sigh< I guess I must be an optimist if I really thought there was the slimmest sliver of a chance that Bruce was going to follow an actual narrative thread for several days instead of just throwing his usual loads of shit at the wall in an incoherent rage.

Oh, well -- better by far to be an optimist than someone whose entire existence is defined solely by hate.

Kip W said...

Frank, whatever you do, don't hang around the OR Live (which I think echoes GO Comics) feed for the Mallard Fillmore strip. I notice that liberals pick specific faults with the strip, and Republicans refute these by spewing content-free insults.

Hm. Liberals believe people are good. I guess by their behavior, the Mallard fans refute liberals with pretty much every interaction.

Neo Tuxedo said...

It's what they do, as driftglass pointed out way back in '09: spew one of the vast array of synonyms for "Satanist" they have

pulled from a random grab-bag of Limbaugh-words -- socialist, elitist, feminist, Marxist, anti-American, compassionate, cut-and-run, surrender, Liberal, extremist, collectivist, queer, Communist, fascist, atheist, humanist, "New York", "San Francisco", “Chicago”, French, European -- that each used to have discrete and very different meanings, but are now bleated interchangeably by the Pig People and their overlords at anyone with a softer heart than Curtis LeMay and less imperial ambitions than Genghis Khan.

FRIDAY

Today's a little mini-rondo of all those empty little paper bags the GOP thinks hold doom and destruction for all liberals. Gosh, how could I have forgotten Toothbrushgate, or Overdue Library Book Dome, or the head-exploding evil of the time he took a vacation?

Neo Tuxedo said...

One of these first days, Brewski will debate a position liberals actually hold outside his petrified liver-brain, and I'll be so distracted by the resulting astonishment that my pet winged pig will slip its leash.

SATURDAY

Screw it, I'm giving him this one. Obama's pattern whenever the Gops make up this crazy crap has been to sacrifice somebody without even checking to see if there's a grain of truth in it. As far as I'm concerned, that gives this one enough of a factual basis that it would quite likely be accepted at the weekly newspaper of any mid-size university in the country.
