That damned Addiction

What's Mallard raving about today?

The Media, Charlie Sheen.

And there's Mallard and his crotch, dutifully watching.

I'm waiting for the ultimate ironic Mallard Fillmore strip: the one in which Tinsley bitches and howls about how repetitive and unimaginative today's comic strips are.

He's been sprawled in front of the set (for an hour less this week: thanks, DST!) for sixteen hours, and the glam shows just keep talking about celebrities! It's almost enough to make him look for the remote.

As much material as Charlie Sheen has provided, and THIS is the gag Tinsley comes up with? If you wanted to make a joke about the media being addicted to Charlie Sheen, he himself supplied the perfect set-up. ("I'm on a drug. It's called Charlie Sheen.")

Tinshley just wants the media to leave assholes with substance abuse problems alone.

Why does Tinsley oppose capitalism? I mean the main reason that Sheen is getting the level of coverage he is is because various media outlets want ratings. I mean I oppose a capitalistically driven news media but I don't think that Tinsley does per se.

"Hi... I'm Mallard... and I'm a hypocrisy addict..."

And with this one, I think we can safely retire the fantasy that Bruce Tinsley spends 80-90 hours a week doing research for his daily whine-fest. It would take no more than 5 minutes (if that) of glancing through newspapers or internet news sites and flipping through TV channels at newstime to understand that the media is obsessed with Charlie Sheen.

@Frank Stone: But he had to pass out in front -- I mean watch the TV for an additional 79.9 hours in order to be absolutely sure.

The irony will be if he spends the whole week recycling this joke, as is his wont. Come on, Drinky! Don't let us down!

Tinsley, and by extension Mallard, simply feel jealous because Charlie Sheen's "winning" harder than they are. Tiger blood seems far more impressive than duck blood.

I can almost feel sympathy for the sentiment behind today's "comic".

Yes, it's badly drawn and badly written - it's yet-another-crotch-duck-single-panel, and it blows the joke - as Erich elegantly demonstrated.

But the corporate media *is* diverting America with bread-and-circusses, or drugs-and-celebrities. This weekend the number of workers and farmers who showed up in the small city of Madison in the wintertime, with maybe a week of planning and no backing from billionaires and corporate media ... exceeded the largest heavily planned and financed Tea Party rally on a pleasant summer day in our nation's capital.

That's news. More importantly, it shows there is something big and real going on.

The suits are trembling. And their poodles are confused, even the ones who draw weak comics badly.
