That damned Moment

What's Mallard raving about today?

President Obama, Education.

It's high irony for a proud Know-Nothing, a reveler in ignorance, to be criticizing Education or someone trying to improve it.

Of course, Mallard and the Right Wing have proven conclusively they have no sense of shame or irony, so the fact that he is doing just that should come as no surprise.

Um...the fuck? Seriously, what? To state the bleeding obvious: you can't get a "four" on the SAT. It doesn't work that way. Is Tinsley REALLY that stupid? Sorry; dumb question.

I vaguely recall this "Sputnik moment" "controversy" from a few weeks ago--it involved Sarah Palin making an ass of herself as usual, I remember--but it was so meaningless and insignificant that I couldn't say any more than that. Trust Tinsley to glom on to pointless minutiae, though. I'll say this for him: he's certainly an appropriate representative of US "conservatism."

This is definitely the shittiest MF I've seen in a while, which, obviously, is really saying something.

I can't mock this. It's not nice to make fun of the mentally disadvantaged.

This is a spudnut moment--as smart as a potato doughnut.

Bill? Are you sure you don't mean "potatoe do-nut"?

(Otherwise spot-on.)

This "comic" literally makes zero sense. A Sputnik moment, by definition, is a good thing. Tinsley must see the word "Sputnik" and think "OMG, Commie!!!1!!". This would be a pathetic attempt on a weekday, but as a Sunday "comic" it's a monumental failure.

One question: Who took Tinsley's SATs for him?

One answer: The kid who got a 4, since it's higher than Tinshley would have gotten on his own.

"Sputnik moment": when the notable success of a competitor motivates you to get your ass in gear and be more successful yourself.

So, if Tyler's abject failure to get a non-fictional SAT score inspires him to start studying harder to avoid ending up stupid and unemployable, then yes, it can be a valuable Sputnik moment

The alleged flat-screen TV in the middle of this Sunday panel might represent a Sputnik moment of Tinsley's own, if perhaps he noticed that other comic strips don't depict televisions as boxes with other oblong boxes behind them and a single 1/2" copper pipe hooked into it, and decided to up his game.

He failed.

Never mind the fact that the lowest possible score for the SAT is 600.
