That damned Superbowl

What's Mallard raving about today?

The Superbowl.

Way to be relevant and timely, Mallard.

Celebrity buggers the lyrics to The Star-Spangled Banner (and apologizes profusely): crap pants.

Ignorant Republican gibbers like a moron with a deep head wound: gush about how you'd "like to have a beer with them."

If you want to make a joke about the NFL, how about some hamhanded joke about the current labor dispute? I'm sure it will be uninformed, lazy and reactionary, but it won't be 4 weeks late. How about "March Madness"? It doesn't start for another couple weeks, but you can compare NCAA basketball championship (playoff system that "everybody" loves) to NCAA football championship(no playoff which "everybody" including Bruce Bruce and Obama opposes). Not great timing either, but in the same month. He doesn't care.

Get Fuzzy today is a rerun strip about the national anthem that is much "funnier" than this. (At least, I think it's a rerun. It sounds awful familiar) Oh wait, Darby Conley hates America because he made a joke about some sacrosanct symbol. (Also, cats)Can't laugh

Well, the drawing is mediocre, there's no point to it, it's sneering and derisive in tone, and the lettering is barely legible. But I'll give it a 9, because that still makes it pretty damn good for a conservative strip.

In Tinshley isn't going to bother being timely, I'm not going to bother being relevant.

Thinking about where Snott Wanker got his "Governor" style, I realized that I've seen it before:
Governor Muffie Tarkin Walker

Again, I come back to Tinsley's claim that he does 80-90 hours of research per week in preparation for doing this strip.

So how many hours of this week's research went into this particular topic, Brucie? (And by "hours", I mean "bottles".)

On this whole National Anthem theme. One of my right-wing friends was bitching on Facebook because the NBA All-Star game featured the Canadian national anthem as well as our national anthem. I'm paraphrasing but he basically said something like "memo to the NBA: on American soil the Star-Spangled Banner is the ONLY national anthem that should be performed!!1!!!". This is so mind-numbingly stupid I had to point out that ever since Toronto (and at the time Vancouver) had landed NBA teams the NBA had made a point of honoring Canada also. His response? "Tell that to the men and women who've died for the ideals in our national anthem!!!".
I said "Ok, whenever the Olympics comes back to America we'll just play the Star-Spangled Banner no matter what country wins the gold".

**crickets**

I just don't get them.

He does know that these will run so far behind as to be meaningless, right?

Did he think we'd still be talking about the game instead of anything else in the entire world?

And his lettering is terrible - he doesn't want readers who don't have perfect eyesight. Or maybe he does, since we won't notice how shitty this is if we can't see it clearly. Just shrug and move on.
