That damned controversy

What's Mallard raving about today?

Christmas.

Again, Mallard cannot express his Christian sentiments without criticizing someone else.

Again, that criticism is leveled at a straw man which exists primarily, if not exclusively, in his own mind.

I'd wish you a Merry Christmas, Mallard, but with every action you demonstrate you have no idea what Christ represents, so it would be a waste of breath.

Indeed. It's unbelievable, really--how hard can it BE to offer a simple Christmas greeting without being a total prick about it (which tends to undermine the substance of the message, I must note)? Crikey.

It's easy. I like to say "have a nice Christmas."

The idea, though, that it's somehow controversial to be Christian in the US is really laughable. It gets right to the heart of the delusional persecution beliefs that animate the right wing.

Merry christmas to everyone commenting on this blog. Just one question: why does today's mallard fillmore feature tits as its picture

John nails it: while not every Christian plays the professional victim, the persecution-fantasy complex is absolutely vital to many churches, cults, and political movements. When people are convinced that The Not-Us are everywhere and out to get us, it's much easier to bend us to one's will in exchange for hope of safety.

Tinsley probably has NO idea whatsoever that, when he puts on his little bravado act ("Lookit me, Ma! I'm speaking truth to powar!!!"), he's really loudly announcing his insecurity and fear.

Happy Holidays!

Oh, brilliant! If you haven't already, go read today's Pearls Before Swine.

So much for "controversiaL" (sic), Tinny...you quack-hack.

If you don't think this comic is crappy enough at first blush, might I suggest you imagine it as most see it when they turn to the "funnies" this day: In black and white.

It must look like an unimpressive mound of snow with some approaching thunderheads bringing up the rear. Lovely! Is this the laziest Mallard ever?

Have a nice Christmas, everyone, and thanks to DaveyK for keeping an eye on Mallard when most everyone else takes the week off.

Prickly City couldn't resist either.

So why should I resist? Many Christmas well wishes and cards at http://www.lefttoonlane.com

Because they've mever been taught how to request for anything politely, y'see. Because the birth of the Savior is all about THEM.

There are many reasons why I'm proud to be Christian. Mallard Fillmore, rest assured, is not one of them.

I hope everyone had a safe and warm Merry Christmas.

And Happy Holidays, no matter which they may be. It's the heart behind the celebration and not the name that is important.
