Those damned soybeans

What's Mallard raving about today?

Hillary Clinton, Soybeans, Death, Taxes.

It's interesting that in Mallard's world, newscasters periodically announce to their viewers that death and taxes are inevitable, among other things.

I don't pretend to know what to make of that fact, but somehow coming on the air just to scare viewers about death and taxes periodically seems about right for Mallard.

A couple things about this one:

1. Once again, the TInshley timing. Hillary's "inevitability" is actually not so strong lately, what with Obama getting Oprah onside and pulling into the lead in Iowa. I wait for his strip about how Huckabee could never ever be a serious candidate.

2. "Mrs. Clinton" has to be some sort of right-wing meme, but I'm not sure the intent. Tying her to Bill while not acknowledging her own identity? Trying to make her sound more housewifey and less presidential? Scotch?

This combo-punch (more like combo-simper) of "Hillary's a stoopid wooman!!1" sexism, connecting her to Bill (yeah, that really hurts her, Bruce), and equating her with "death and taxes"...it may play well with the Ron Paul crowd and FOX News-watching mouthbreathers, but everyone else knows that another Clinton presidency would be far superior to the mess we're in now, which is equitable to "death and fiscal fantasy."

A little soapboxing: some people on the left side of the aisle are convincing themselves--again--that because Bush is so unpopular, the far-far-faaaaar left has a chance to take the White House and build a third party from the top down.

I really wish they'd shut the **** up. Four years ago, it was "Anybody But Kerry." Eight years ago, "Anybody But Gore" because "Al Gore and George W. Bush are exactly the same!" And yet, those same fools are running a pointless "Draft Gore" campaign and waiting to see who wins the Democratic nomination so they can fill in the blank on their "Anybody But _______" signs.

They aren't solely responsible for the Bush years (and the Bush wars), but they certainly did their little part to make these happen, and they're too self-righteous to acknowledge that and learn from experience. The "Anybody But Hillary" letters have already started appearing in my local fishwraps, and the writers will quickly switch against whoever gets the Dem nod. If they ever do any positive campaigning, it will be for an unelectable (Nader before, the "Draft Gore" nonsense now), or some creep with a scummy record but sweet, sweet promises (Ron Paul).

Because no viable, popular candidate will ever suit their Utopian fantasies, they'd rather toss yet another election to the Neo-Cons and hope they survive to try again later. They'd rather spend four more years merrily protesting and bitching about a terrible Republican president than suffer the horrible indignity of a successful Democratic president that doesn't pass their "progressive" checklist one hundred percent.

Bruce Tinsley will never admit it publicly, but he loves stooges like that. Karl Rove and Dick Cheney do, too.

Taxes are inevitable because it was established that a governing body would at times find the need to collect money which they would then use to provide services.

Who the frap voted in the guy who thought those services included obscure "accomplishments" in a country far from us? Right, conservatives. Here's a hint, righties who hate death and taxes: don't vote in the guy who wants a war. Someone is going to have to pay for all those soldiers now and in the future when experience has left them unable to cope with regular life. The ones that live anyways. Wars do not come cheap.

Oh, and Mrs. Clinton did not attend lawschool. Hillary Rodham attended Yale University and Wellesley College, has an estimated IQ of 140, and has the qualifications such as a law degree and experience working with a firm and serving on a corporate board, things considered acceptable for a political career (at least for a white middleaged male). And then she married Bill.

Today's comic barely seems to exist. It's just a duck saying nothing of import.

Bota - and that is unusual how?

That he gets paid the same no matter how shitty his comic is? He's got a sinecure position. (Is it a noun? Adjective? Whatever - describes him to a T.)

However, I won't look at it until DaveyK does.

Because today's strip doesn't even have subject matter, or something like "Taxes" that Tinsley wants to whine about.

So I looked at today's comic.

Mallard's a Plugger. They are often anti-technology because they're "down-to-earth."

I said this last week about conservatives rejecting what they see as the trappings of the "(liberal) elite" - blackberrys, GPS things, computers. By doing so, they think they are better than the elite, making themselves the elite.

I think Bruce Tinsley is a great cartoonist with a good political message in his strips. He is also sober

Shut up, Bruce.

Mallard thinks he's being deep. How cute.

Factinista - he has all the depth of a drop of dew on a weed in the early morning haze.
