Those damned Tea Parties

What's Mallard raving about today?

Teabaggers, G20 Rioters, The Media.

At first I thought this was a slap at the Teabaggers and their poorly-attended but widely-mocked teabagging parties.

But I think what's really going on is that Mallard's trying to suggest the Media are leftists who feel more comfortable among G20 rioters.

At any rate, we've finally made it to the teabaggers.

This would have been a good opportunity for Mallard to exercise some discretion and realize that, 3 weeks after the fact, the teabaggers would be a national laughing stock, and not just because they don't know how to use the Urban Dictionary.

Right.

Maybe if a major news organization spent weeks endlessly promoting the G20 protests; or if, despite being planned a year in advance by DNC lobbyists, the alleged catalyst of the riots was an on-air rant about global poverty and inequality by a major network "reporter"; or if the media ever gave a crap about anything the G20 protesters care about; or if one were to believe that anyone would rather be in a riot than listen to ill-informed conservatives blather about how restoring the top tax bracket from 36% to 39% is socialism and/or fascism.

You know, if I had the choice of attending a teabagging event or G20 riots, I'd go with the G20 also. You never know when you might show up at the wrong event, and I wouldn't want to repeat that mistake.

I will never, ever stop laughing at the name "teabagging protest."

I think the lesson to be learned from this strip is that "Tea Party" participants are dangerous and incapable of peaceful assembly.

I'd rather cover the G20 protests, too, as both the liberal reporter and the working-class cameraman agree. Covering the teabaggers must just be plain embarrassing, what with the paltry turnouts and the poor planning and the utterly wimping out when told they don't have a permit and the wonderful, wonderful double entendre imagery. Cripes, I'd rather cover the guy who grows the giant pumpkins at the state fair.

Word verification: makeverg. Not war.

Today's strip illustrates the peril of depending on talking points for your scripts: when they flop, you're left talking about something no-one cares about anymore.

Like teabagging parties.

This would be a problem for any comic, regardless of political preference, be it the reichwing Mallard Fillmore or the liberal Candorville. (Doonesbury started college-liberal but is now as thoroughly mainstream as Peanuts. If at times it seems liberal, it's because facts and our Constitution have a liberal bias.)

But there seems to be a trend at the heart of liberalism not to follow talking points. Obedience to authority is a reichwing virtue.

I sympathize with Mr. Liberal Reporter completely. The G20 protests had some definable goals and a sense of international importance, and people actually looked impressively angry. The tea parties had no tangible goals and were rather bland despite the efforts of FOX. And people wore tea bags.

Take Facebook. To your average joe, the 60,000 or so members might seem impressive. Until you realize that they're vastly outnumbered by Star Trek fans.

Wow. Most pointless Blallard, Evah!

Genuinely impressive!

DaveyK...as you know they were "Tea Parties" for conservatives to voice their protest (like the Boston Tea Party) of the huge stimulus bill that BHO and his fellow Democrats pushed through. You and your fellow liberals are the folks who named those who attended the Tea Parties, "teabaggers." I did not see a reference to teabaggers in BT's cartoon. Of course the bait you drop each day for your ravenous followers always works.

The only time I noticed news coverage using the word teabagging, was a video from the "professional" journalist David Shuster on MSNBC. I must admit I did not know the meaning of "teabagging", you obviously did and receive a real chuckle when you liberal friends use this term. Quite sick!

Apparently the liberals found this report and video on Teabagging by David Shuster a total hoot. Reminds me of the juvenile humor of Beavis and Butthead many years ago. I suppose according to the liberals, any conservative protest is not allowed, they must be shut down so let's make fun of them.

Let the feeding frenzy begin.

(Which, of course, they "didn't know what it meant" in that case either...)

Hey Anonycoward, I know you won't respond, but who ever said the Tea Partygoers shouldn't be allowed to protest? Protest all you want. Just seems to me like you have that conservative persecution complex, which since you aren't really persecuted, has to be manufactured, in this case by lying.

I object far, far more to egregiously invoking the Boston Tea Party when the similarities between now (tax breaks for 90% and an incremental increase on the other 10%) vs. then (taxation without fair representation are non-existant. Of course, we're talking about people who were rallied by the likes of Glenn Beck, whose representations of history are so wrong they border on dangerous (i.e. the Nazi Germany backdrop monologue. Jeez that man makes my skin crawl.)

Let me know when "conservatives" actually protest. A few dozen people here and there standing around with some badly made signs, failing to actually dump the tea because they didn't have the necessary permits(!), then meekly depositing it in a conference room before shuffling back to the Best Western in time for Happy Hour doesn't really cut it. Bunch of wusses.

Word verification: porose. Because sorrow is only skin deep.

Oh, and don't pretend that the verb "to teabag" and the like weren't emerging from the mouths of assorted douchey Fox News drones for days and weeks beforehand, Tinznonymous. You really put the "dingus" in "disingenuous." Right after putting the bathtub gin in your tummy, no doubt.

I'm happy whenever Teabagging Party organizers protest they didn't know the word has a crude sexual reference among the younger generation.

The Foxpublican Party is not only creepy and homicidal, it's completely out of touch with the next wave of voters.
