That damned Enemies List

What's Mallard raving about today?

President Obama, Enemy Lists.

And not a moment too soon, look at the shifty eyes that guy on the couch is sporting.

Seriously...*Fox News? Gonna be hard to beat this as this year's Least Helpful Asterisk.

Unless of course the asterisk is meant to connote that Fox News maintains a list of enemies to the President so it knows who to invite on for commentary. In which case this would be the most honest Mallard Fillmore ever.

So we have one lying propaganda mouthpiece citing another as its source. Nice.

Of course, it was a Republican president who made "enemies list" a household phrase, and each subsequent Republican administration was known to maintain one of their own.

Can anyone give me a ballpark estimate of how many times Tin got his walnuts bunched up over that?*

*rhetorical question

The American Spectator has an article about this from back in Feb. One interesting thing in it is paragraph 3 which talks about 'the Obama campaign emailed an "Obama Action Wire" to thousands of supporters and liberal activists exhorting them to harass the offices of Chicago's WGN radio by flooding the station with angry phone calls and emails.' Does this mean that conservatives dislike the idea of groups being directed to disrupt businesses with nastiness, as opposed to town hall meetings? Must be immoral to threaten the flow of cash...

I'm not even sure what this one is supposed to be about. I haven't heard that Obama is compiling an enemy list, or a list of any kind for that matter. Is this something that I missed in the last few days/weeks or is this something that was created due to fear of persecution?

I suspect he's drunkenly attempting to refer to the thing where the Obama administration said, "hey, if you hear people spewing bullshit about healthcare reform, tell us so we can counter it," and wingnuts, being wingnuts, started hysterically shrieking about "OMG HE'S STARTING AN ENEMIES LIST!!!!!!111¡¡¡¡" when asked about the previous president's TIPS program, which actually did what they're pretending to believe Obama was doing, they had not comment.

There must be some kind of police somewhere where we can report him for illegal use of source citation.

For those understandably confused, this strip refers to this particular bit of insanity.

Nostroduckus - good job on using your lag time to focus in on the one that had no legs at all.

This PROVES that liberals are evil!!!

I meant to say the one... well what is it? It's not the one issue. The one meme, the one talking point? Oh wait, the one batsh@t crazy theory?*

What, you don't remember the nonstop coverage on Fox News three weeks ago of "Dumpy Old White Couple Added to Obama 'Enemies List'"?

Jazzbumpa said...

This is right up there with "Liberals Hate America!"

It's a great ploy to accuse the other side of doing the same fucking thing that you are actually doing, when in reality, they aren't.

Brilliant.

@Anthony..I kinda figured that part out myself. Apparently, Bruce & the other wing-nuts in the media are hoping the general public are too stupid to realize it's the Nixons & the Bushes are the ones who keep an "enemies list".

It's also pretty funny that this "enemies' list" story is being promoted by the same network that gives its hosts like Bill O'Reilly license to send "Fox Security" to the homes of individuals who annoy them.

How can Tinsley possibly be taking this seriously? Today's comic doesn't read as anything short of a parody of right-wing thought.

I...thought the asterisk somehow indicated that the White House *is* Fox News....

...I mean seriously, look at how badly it's placed.

I thought he was footnoting a Fox News report that said Tinsley was on the White House enemies list! That's not just snark, I tried to google it. I hit a July post on this blog on the same topic, then I read this thread, so I guess not.

I could easily imagine Fox saying something like that though.

I completely disagree about this asterisk being unhelpful.

It was extremely helpful in letting me know that this is hyperbole based on a completely biased source.

Seriously, if the White House was going to round up neocons and send them to re-education camps or whatever, they would've done it right at the beginning when support for the new President was at it's highest and before neocons had time to stock up on weapons.

Of course, they don't realize they're already on the list of gullible fools who are played like marionettes by those who seek votes and money given in fear and anger.

...This is about the single most baffling asterisk source I have ever seen. It's practically parodying itself it's so confounding.

Also, this "enemies list" thing is another case of "when conservatives talk and/or brag about about it, it's charming and shows he has no tough love, but if their is a single baby hint at the very most that a liberal is doing it, they go apeshit."

You know who compiled an "enemies list" while he was Governor of California? You got it: that golden calf of the Right, Saint Ronnie the Gipper. (Although he called them "troublemakers".) The list included such Grave Threats to National Security as poet John Ciardi and award-winning author Harlan Ellison. And you know what else Uncle Ronnie did? He spied on these "troublemakers" by tapping their phones.*

Funny how IOKIYAR because it MUST be for a good reason**, but if a Dem is even SUSPECTED of doing it (with or without any evidence) it's WRONG and EVIL and it's JUST LIKE WHAT HITLER AND THE NAZIS DID!!!!!

*Ellison actually caught the technicians who were setting up the tap on the phone line outside his house, and was eventually able to track the authorization for the tap to Reagan's office.

**Recall that John Cornyn (R-TX) excused Dubya's illegal domestic spying by claiming "None of your civil liberties matter much after you're dead."

David in NYC said...

If there is indeed an "enemies list" being created out of the request to report lies and disinformation re health care (which I do not believe at all), wouldn't that just be a list of people who are "enemies" of the truth?

Of course, now that I say that, I can see why wingnuts like Tinkley would be upset about it.

I thought today's "comic" was about how, now that Ed McMahon is dead, Publishers Clearing House had to come up with SOMETHING ...

"YOU HAVE WON ... A SPOT ON THE WHITE HOUSE ENEMIES LIST! (see offer inside)"

...actually, that reads a lot like the "Human Events" magazine email I've been getting.

Kip W said...

My guess is that the enemies list consists of the words "Fox News," and that Tin Eye's basis for this startling information is that Obama once said something like, "Good evening friends... and Fox News." Can you prove it did not happen??

WV: 'ressesh' -- 1) Slang for one who has seceded again.
2) Liquid research: "Oh, god, I musta ressesh'd three six-packs after midnight again."

(deja vu! I posted this to the wrong thread first)
