It's not the continuing rant about celebrity.
It's not the fact that the panel is dripping with contempt for the average American.
It's the fact that the old lady's toes are the source of the thought balloon in the first panel.

I love how in every interview with him I've seen, Tinsley insists that MF is a strip for the little guy, not the elisits liberal demmy-crats that have all the power. But then he turns around and directs sneering contempt at that same "little guy" (or gal).
I can't speak for everyone else, but I know my toes are greatly interested in Britney Whatshername.
I'd argue that this strip would be funnier (admittedly not by much) if Mallard were delivering these lines.
But that would require Tinsley to have a sense of humor about himself.
Tinsley must be reading this blog.
He's starting to actually draw. Gone are the full-panel balloons.
