Those damned noses

What's Mallard raving about today?

Superheroes, Noses.

Someone found the peyote stash.

Um...what about the Shadow?

(Yes, I'm a geek...)

A.) Those are, by far, the WORST drawings of those super heroes I've EVER seen.
B.) Wolverine, Storm, Hulk, and Superman I understand; they've all had movies made with them in it, and Storm in particular seems based on her movie design. But...what's Raven of "Teen Titans" doing in there?
C.) Big surprise, but this is a LOT of effort for one lameass punchline. When Tinz can make even SUPERHEROES boring, you KNOW you're in trouble.

Also the big publishers probably wouldn't let you get away with MASSIVE PENIS CHINS.

Aww, I love the self-revealing strips. I wish Tinsley would drop the political stuff and just make the strip about his daily life--watching TV until dawn, sitting on the floor wishing he was a superhero, etc. It would be better than Garfield Minus Garfield.

I don't think that's supposed to be Raven from the Teen Titans. I think it looks more like the Spectre. (But with Tinsley's hamfisted drawing it's hard to tell.)

Tinshley should just be happy that, in Tony Stark, the alcoholic superhero has representation.

He's also missed the idea that his character is a blatant ripoff of a Marvel comic book character -- Howard the Duck -- only without the cigar and the wit.

Better, and less self-pitying, punchline:

"There are just no superheroes that read comicbooks without their pants on!"

I don't think it's anything to do with noses.

Let's look at all the things wrong with Mallard being a superhero:

Not sexually appealing
Flab
Big nose, though technically a bill.
Fighting crime by watching TV already claimed by Spiderman
Fighting crime by whining also already claimed by Spiderman
Lack of actual superpower (changing color from black to green does not count).
Small breasts (I'm equal opportunity)
Fighting crime by lame comebacks also also claimed by Spiderman
Not a snazzy dresser (polka dots?!?!)
Lack of a nemisis (liberals do not count, they lack superpowers)
Beer gut (requires larger size to work)

But it's not hopeless. Tinsley could always shamelessly rip off Darkwing Duck to make Mallard a superhero!

Doesn't Mallard have the "Get Published Despite Lack of Quality" superpower?

dlauthor: Actually the name "Mallard Fillmore" isn't even original. That was the name National Lampoon gave to their mascot when they first began publication. I don't think he lasted more than one issue, however.
