That damned Government Money

What's Mallard raving about today?

Barack Obama, Government Money.

Mallard's theory, if I understand this correctly, is that in the absence of Government, citizens would magically pool their money to pay for Military, Emergency Services, and Infrastructure, among other things.

And this would be better that a representative Democracy levying taxes to pay for such things.

Because Anarchy has proven to be a very effective social system.

Marketplace of Ideas, indeed!

I think Barack Obama needs a vacay before he takes office, if that's what he's hallucinatin'.

That's never a good thing to hallucinate.

Tinz/Mallard is a selfish douche, and he knows this, but he assumes that once taxes goes away he will have no problem willingly paying more for everything. By choice.

Most people are kinda selfish. We have to be forced to do things. We know this.

Also, who pays the military?

Mu govt prof said conservatives like small government and security. Who pays for the security? And there's the problem. Because private companies like Blackwater (too lazy and probably don't know how to look this up but think they were paid by "taxpayer dollars") work GREAT.

This reminds me of something I saw in a discussion RE: the paying for the rape kits in Wasilla. Do you have to pay for the fingerprint dusting? The autopsy? A crime's a crime.

Oops, forgot to end that.

A crime's a crime, and some things the free market just cannot take care of.

Though I remember a book - I think it was a mystery of sorts - with a private company that cleaned up after the murder was investigated by the cops and CSIs.

"...some things the free market just cannot take care of..."

Exactly. You can't have a market at all if you don't have some structure set up to enforce contracts, protect people and property, etc.

Safety cannot be left to the private sector, because there's always an economic incentive to cut corners. We saw this in the mortgage mortgage, where NINJA lenders crowded our prudent lenders and the prudent lenders had to go imprudent or go out of business.

Likewise, health care cannot be done efficiently by the private sector because it always has an incentive to cheat.

Every game needs referees. The only debate is where to draw the lines.

The reason that the above discussion has gotten rather far away from the current strip is that the current strip is complete nonsense, from a structural standpoint. Forget the politics & economics, just look at the "joke".

O: WTF?
M: I'm imaginary, and so is money.
Tinkley: Har-har-har!

Discussing the strip is...

I don't know...

hard?

Because the strip makes less sense than I do on my worst day.

Why the hell would Obama be hallucinating about Mallard Fillmore? Assuming he's ever seen the strip, I would assume he's dismissed it with the same contempt that we do. It's certainly not possible to imagine that it would have bored its way into his psyche.

Hey fool...you don't dismiss this strip, you blather like a moron here every time I look at the comments to this blog. You have nothing else to do, must be a teacher or work the night shift at McDonalds.

Ah, if only he could experience the jet-setting, fast-paced lifestyle of the guy who follows him around and screeches at him in comment sections of obscure blogs!
