That damned Test

What's Mallard raving about today?

Education Standards

Teacher Responds: Yes, yes it was. Furthermore, I am giving you an "F" on your attempt to make a joke.

Seriously, I know there have been some questions raised about bias in standardized testing, but is this a debate that is actively raging and I just don't know about it? Or is this another faux outrage into which Mallard has worked himself?

Or is this another faux outrage into which Mallard has worked himself?

Substitute "Tinsley" for "Mallard," and the answer becomes, "is there any other sort of outrage for him?"

This strip allows Tin to beef on education again (which is important, as education is the greatest threat neoconservativism faces), and slip in a poorly-disguised jab at them uppity minorities who, as usual, are getting another unfair advantage over poor, put-upon whites.

Of course, you're the racist if you point that out. How do we know? Because Tin said so himself!

is it me or tinsley is so freaking lazy that he is using blackface lil' rush and a random straw woman from another comic for background?

That would actually have been a pretty good joke if handled by a skilled cartoonist, who would have shown the kid maybe as a ne'er do well type making excuses. Like maybe the kid in Zitz or something.

Tinny's so usually on his 3-week-old talking points, which should be "universal health care is BAD, greedy insurance companies GOOD!" But he's half-heartedly wandered around death panels, cash for clunkers, the post office, and then repeatedly gone back to his miserable school years and how he hates teachers. Did he try to stay on one subject, but freak out every time he saw a "Back to School Sale" sign?

What happened to Bruce that so traumatized him that he still hates school this much? High school was the worst years of my life, but it's like I ever think about it anymore. Or obsess about it.

One panel strip on Sunday, again!

And not one of those clever "Family Circus" strips, where the large space is actually used to create humor, denote the passage of time, etc.

Nope. Tinkley is another "F" for "Lack of eFFort".

Seriously, dude, we all hate Tinsley, but don't let anyone see that you thinking The Family Circus is "clever." You'll discredit this whole blog.

I find this version of Family Circus to be quite clever, actually:
