That damed Popularity

What's Mallard raving about today?

President Obama.

President Obama's approval rating is about 47%. So I can expect to see more than 47% of people wearing President Obama masks?

By the way, at this point in his first term, President Reagan's approval rating was 36%. Ergo, Obama is 11 percentage points better that President Reagan.

Here's what Garry Trudeau sez in this interview, regarding problems with satirizing Obama. Note the bolded bit:

Believe it or not, Obama's very tough for business. The contradictory characterizations of him as fascist or socialist only serve to confirm the truth—he's a raging moderate. And satirists don't do well with moderates, especially thoughtful ones. In addition, Obama rarely makes gaffes and has no salient physical or temperamental features. And sinking popularity isn't a critique. Even SNL's main rap on him is his unflappability, hardly a vice in a world leader.

Ya hear that, Tinsley? That's the difference between an artist and a worthless hack.

Uh-oh, this can't be good. Obama and the White House itself are sharing thoughts. Must be some Kenyo-Fascist-Haitian voodoo thing. Because, you know, he's BLACK HAW HAW.

But Batshit says racism is dead!

I'm sure everyone's heard about the head-stomping incident; so much for Batshit's "teabaggers are just little old ladies who don't want to be death paneled" nonsense.

As the mess brews, the stomper has declared he's the one who deserves an apology because his back hurts, his apologists claim he stomped her shoulder rather than her head so what's the big deal?, and the wonderful humanlike beings in wrong-wing media have declared that this is exactly what protesters--other than those who are teabaggers, naturally--deserve.

Godwin's Law is officially obsolete.

Remember when Mallard was cranking these out when Bush was in the twenty-percent range? They were hilarious.

Regarding these weird new capcha ads... I wouldn't mind jumping through hoops to access good comics, like Tom the Dancing Bug, but for a shitty cartoon like Mallard Fillmore? Ugh. Although it was kinda fun typing "meg 1010" into Meg Whitman's ad, when I've already voted for her opponent.

But the really scary part is that the mask was made... in CHINA! [Dun Dun DUNNNN!]

Bet that made you drop your marshmallow into the campfire, eh?

Kip W said...

Now now, Tog, those teabaggers are more scared of you than you are of them!

Of course, that means they'll probably want to stomp your head while somebody's holding you down. Just apologize, give them everything they want, and move on.

Every Mallard Fillmore strip ought to be prefaced with "This can't be good".

word veri: obbiers. A corruption of the German term "Obst-Bieren" or "fruit beers", which The Artist has been known to drink seven or eight of in a sitting.

Other times to think "this can't be good":

When you're an alcoholic cartoonist's wife or kids and you suddenly realize the cans of Coors in the fridge have run out.

When you pull over someone weaving all over the road, who smells like a still, and he starts calling you the real racist.

When the newest batch of strips arrive at the syndicate from Indiana, three weeks after something bad happened involving someone brown. Or black. Or Jewish. Or SCARY SCARY MUSLIM SCARY.

Whenever you read something drawn and/or written by Bruce Tinshley.

Tinsley is saying that the scariest thing in the world is a Black man, especially one from Africa. He iz using this argument to justify wearing blackface, just as he did the last two or three years--justify it, I mean, I am sure he has spent his life wearing blackface on every holiday. Also, if Godwin's Law is dead, I refer you to my comments on the comic about Democratic resume: I think I captured the true nature of Tinsley. Seriously, only a Nazi would say that racism is dead, and after all the bullshit Tinsley has said, I am starting not to care about the law.

Word Verification: Brojocui, a jocui would become the world's most horrible dictator if he had the power, and Tinsley's brother is a brojocui. Fuck you, Tinsley: This is not a violation of Godwin's Law, it is a statement of fact.

"This Can't Be Good" is a very appropriate name for the entire 15 years of "Mallard Fillmore".

This is how Tinsley justifies blackface on other holidays:

New Year's Day: I am celebrating the fact that they have not destroyed themselves for another year!
Valentine's Day: This is Black History Month!
Arbor Day: All Africans live in the trees!
Easter: Jesus was black, right? Also, Jesus was pale white. No, I did not say that: you heard what I said, every one of you at this NAACP fundraiser!
Bastille Day: Frenchmen are dirtier than Africans!
Columbus Day: He discovered this country which took you away from that hellhole, and gave you free everything for minimal work.
Labor Day: Blacks never do any work.
Independence Day: We deserved independence; you wasted it, and are very racist about it. No, I said racism was dead, so I could not have said that, you damned ignorant United Negro College Fund workers!
Yom Kippur: I know all the Jews are in league with them, so I have to disguise myself for protection.
Thanksgiving: Pilgrims were hard-working, intelligent, and did not waste their time playing radio games!
Christmas: They are the ones who get the good presents with their Jew gold buying Jap radio games, and Chink electrical dohickeys. I know all about modern technology, stop whining, meeting of the Kwaanzis Club!
New Year's Eve: I hope for a year where they kill themselves into Hell!

Nothing new here, just another pathetic attempt at comedy from Tinsley.
"I'm sure everyone's heard about the head-stomping incident"
Actually, I didn't hear of it until I clicked on that link. I know this is off topic but that guy is a worthless pile of s@#& and a coward. What's even worse is that he has the nerve to demand an apology from the woman he stomped. It makes me so mad I don't think there's a word in the English language for it! I hope he gets what's coming to him.

Of course, the mask is most popular with white teabaggers, who finish off their costume with a Mao cap, a Nazi armband, a Koran, and a witch doctor grass skirt.

Chron no longer wishes that people would view Mallard Filmore. Good day.

Tog said...

Tip: If you use the Chron's "make your own comics page" function, you can still see it without having to fool with all the captchaputnikery (which will hopefully be gone anyway after the elections).

Addt'l tip: If you alter the "cpp=" part of the URL for your comics page to match the number of your selections, all your comics will appear on a single page if that's your preference.

The In Bed Report for this Week:

The kid dressed up as an exit poll is just way too scary .. in bed!

In spite of the opinion polls, Democrats remain confident that after Tuesday's election they'll retain control of the White House .. in bed!

This can't be good; the "Obama Halloween Mask" is more popular than ME .. in bed!

It's cheaper, it'll be different from everyone else's, and not nearly as scary as the store bought ones ... in bed!

In other news, rumors that Hillary Clinton is angling for Joe Biden's VP job flared up again today, after a memo was leaked in which she tells the president he's "the first bright, clean, articulate African-American president" ... in bed!

I interrupt your regular comic strip to congratulate Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo on winning this year's Nobel Peace Prize and hope that someday he'll get to hold it in his hands ... in bed!

I know this is gonna sound wayyy unsophisticated, but if this keeps up, I could start feeling a bit tyrannophobic ... in bed!
