Those damned Islanders

What's Mallard raving about today?

Baby Boomers.

All Baby Boomers are turning 65 this year? They were all born the same year? Well, what do you know, you learn something new every day.

Wait a second, scratch that. I already knew Mallard Fillmore was an idiot.

I wandered over to SFGate to see this one a little early, and (unsurprisingly) got more of a laugh out of the comments, especially this one:

"I work in a federal office and have read Mallard Fillmore for the past 3 years from my office computer. When I tried to look at the cartoon on Monday, Sept. 28, I received a message that it was a restricted site. So much for freedom of speech. I was shocked; Censorship of a cartoon that does nothing more than offer a conservative point view. I fear that this is only the beginning of the loss of our freedoms under this administration."

Christ in a cakepan. We've got economic disparity that makes Egypt look like the fabled Workers' Paradise, and the new (R/TB) governor of Wisconsin is threatening state employees with the National Guard--and you see a conspiracy of censorship in not being able to access a comic strip on a work computer?!?

Stick a fork in us, we're done.

The strip itself? Another blown Sunday strip. Same tired shit, fresh new failure.

Um...yeah, I guess the older boomers will turn sixty-five this year. And last year they turned sixty-four. And the year before that, sixty-three. And so on. Your point being...? Oh, right: it's that people in the media who are not you--You couldn't care less!--are obsessed with this generation. Okay then.

Seriously, where the fuck is this coming from? The biggest socio-economic event since the start of the baby-boom, or maybe the civil rights acts, and mallard is pissed that people are aware of it?
Also, Pacific Islands who haven't mastered fire, or the single simplest machine in the entire universe? Stay classy, Champ.

Tog: Picard face palm, yo. Did you know that blocking access to cartoons on work computers es EXACTLY THE SAME was when Stalin starved 10 million people?
Shouldn't Mallard be HAPPY that the Federal Government is cracking down on those lazy, unskilled Gumment Employees from goofing off at work and wasting our tax dollars?
Holy Churchill, Batman!

I'm guessing he got a pat on the head or a Snausage one time for saying something bad about the Boomers, and now he looks for any chance to try and recapture that wonderful feeling.

If it wasn't for Mallard's moaning and pissing, I probably wouldn't even think about how old the Baby Boomers are. I know that I'm 54. That's bad enough.

Maybe humanity was supposed to simply die off after "The Greatest Generation?"

Actually, I think the commenter Tog cites has one thing exactly right: The Mallard is indeed "a cartoon that does nothing more than offer a conservative point [of] view." It certainly offers no humor, imagination, artistic skill, or anything else that might full under any category of non-suckitude.

PS - I'll bet on this benighted Pacific island it's at least considered rude to keep sticking your bare crotch out at everyone.

Thank God Chantel escaped the horror of watching TV with Mallard alive!

I suppose his unremitting negativity and laziness was too much even for a fellow cartoon character.

Bruce Tinshley, ladies and gentlemen. Everyone younger than him's an idiot, and everyone older gets too much attention.

Or perhaps he's just envious because he knows there's no way his liver makes it anywhere near 65.
