Those damned Tiger Moms

What's Mallard raving about today?

Tiger Moms, Bums.

Anyone care to theorize on whether Mallard agrees with or disagrees with the referenced article?

Because, apparently, we're supposed to just know what's going on in his head since he offers no clues in the panel itself.

There was a popular book called "Tiger Moms" recently. Tinsley has heard of it. That's the joke. He got paid to make this joke. Man oh man, I just can't wait until he starts his inevitable series about those greedy, overpaid teachers.

Wait, is this about the book by Amy Chua, who psychologically abuses her daughter if she doesn't perform to expectations in a real-life stereotype straight out of Cheezburger's Memebase?

Jesus Christ, Batshit. First, you're being idiotically obscure. Second, we can't tell if you're objecting to Chua, the homeless, the educational system, or what. Third, whether you like or hate what Chua does, I want to see you reconcile it with Li'l Rush, your "Vietnamese-American child with superior intelligence and patriotism" character.

What's going on in Mallard's head, you ask?

I'd guess some light elevator music, and not much else.

Helluva self-portrait there, Bruce. You left out the bottle, though.

But hey, let's deny our children fun because a caricatured version of an Asian parent does the same! That'll train them all well to toil in the blighted joyless hellscape that the right wing imagines to be a utopia. But if you're going to exalt Asian stereotypes, Tinshley, does that mean you've changed your previously hardline stance against the consumption of dogs?

The "Tiger Mom" reference isn't THAT obscure -- all the daytime talk shows were aflutter about the book for a while there, getting indignantly angry about a memoir as if it had been a parenting guidebook.

The joke is inscrutable, nonetheless. My best guess is that the homeless guy is a feckless liberal who instinctively blames his own failures on having the wrong kind of parenting, but that plaid green tocque is usually a signifier of blue-collar Real Canada^H^H^H^H^H^H America in this strip, so who knows.

Who else didn't have a Tiger Mom?

*Bill Gates (his parents are really nice people - very smart but not "Tiger")

*Warren Buffet

* The Koch brothers

* George W Bush

* Mallard Fillmore

Oh, a "Tiger Mom" reference. How hep and modern and au courant.

And, of course, nothing says, "I believe in strict discipline" like being arrested twice in six months on drunk-related charges.

I read this as "This guy's homeless and smelly because of his non-abusive childhood."

Does Tinny have kids? Then call the DYS. "See this book, kids? It proves that when Daddy drunkenly screams abuse at you, it's for your own good, you UNGRATEFUL LITTLE SHITS!"

Kip W said...

Tin owed everything to his Tiger Mom, who nagged him day and night: "Suck up! Suck up more! Damn, how are you ever gonna get a right-wing sugar daddy if that's all the better you suck up to power? Now start over again!"

For what it's worth, my strictly-raised ex from Hong Kong says that Amy Chua is insane.

I thought (judging from the interview with Chua on the Colbert Report) the while point of her book was that, while she tried raising her daughters that way, she realized it was a lousy thing to do.

Frankly, I think a memoir whose theme is "How I sucked as a parent" takes an unusual amount of courage to write. While I have no trouble believing the Tinsh will never win parent of the year, I can't see him with the guts to face up to his massive, glaring inadequacies.

CW's right. Chua on Colbert is well worth taking 3 minutes to watch - (here it is!) if only because, as an example of humor and humility, it shows things never seen in Mallard Fillmore.

Please go to our Tiger Moms Parenting Battle Hymn blog site at http://Blog.TigerMoms.net for charts.

Are Asians 10x times smarter than our US mainstream white people?

Data shows US is losing its competitive advantage as the world's #1 superpower in the educational arena...Are Asians 10x times smarter than our US mainstream white people as shown by the demographic data? you tell me from the following chart...

A fact can tell everything: the top Ivy League colleges like Harvard each has admitted around 30% Asian students across the board but Asian Americans only represent 4.6% in the US total population, per Wikipedia demographic data, which is 6~10x times higher in density than any other ethnicity. From the above UC system stats, this number has been passing 40% during the past decade while the number of white students has been decreasing from 45% to 2008's 33%, proving that Asian countries including China and India will become future superpowers even in educational industry. This number has been even higher on the graduate level, which is a very alarming signal for President Obama's Educational Reform! Are Asians really 10x times smarter than our mainstream white people? Absolutely not, it's our failed high school education system that has betrayed us, rendering our American kids across the board on average less smart in almost any fronts than those at the same age on the global stage: science ranked #23, reading #17 and math #32, which is not first-tier, not second-tier, but the outrageous-tier. Shame on it! One professor at China's best university - Peking University told me that statistically, Chinese kids at high school age on average have absorbed double volume of knowledge than American children, yet China's higher education lags far behind than US counterparts. Do you believe that? Ironically, even the US higher education has been propping up by Asian overachievers for decades.
From this chart, a bitter reading jumps into every American's eyes that our mainstream white people have only been disproportionately assigned a tiny diminishing 33% portion of state educational resources in the famous public UC system using California government money: looks like UC colleges like Berkeley and UCLA would have decayed into second-tier or even third-tier without admitting these 40% Asians. Are Asians still demographically minority in California? Sounds like they're mainstream while white Americans have been diminishing into a minority there. And if you look into all 50 states, the facts are ubiquitously similar as well. Can US maintain its superpower over the long haul in the higher education industry if we overly lean on Asians in academia like that? If personally you cannot change these irksome yet iron trendy facts of statistical significance, 2IvyLeague.org SAT/ACT 90%~100% Percentile Guarantee Elite eTutors Service's Advanced Elite-Incubating Classes can change your kids' fate dramatically, paving a solid way for them to the Ivy League-esques.
