Mayan prophecy, also known as general pessimistic speculation as to what the ending of an old calendar means. But really, how many post-apocalyptic books are there? Isn't The Stand the last major work of end-of-the-world fiction? Haven't we moved on to post-apocalyptic movies and video games? Could Mallard be spending too much time in the science fiction section of his used bookstore?

My new calendar doesn't go on forever, either. Is THAT "prophecy" too?

Sounds like either Mrs. Tinshley or one or more of the unfortunate Tinshlings have made the mistake of enjoying Hunger Games in Brucie's presence. He'll show them!!!

Oh, I get it now. Tinsley's convinced the world ends at the end of the year, so he had a few (meth-fueled? it would be irresponsible not to speculate!) marathon sessions, and did all his strips for the whole year, and then he sold everything he had and used the money to go someplace warm and stock up on booze.

Not surprising that Tinshley buys that "end of the world" crap. Did the world end on January 1, 2000? Even the Mayans knew that their calendar was just going to roll over into a new century (*Sky and Telescope Magazine). It would be an excuse to have another New Year's party, though.

I don't think it's Tinsh buying the end of the world crap as claiming the Mayans did. I read this as THEM DUMM INJUNS HUR HUR HUR AMIRITE?

There is the germ of a joke here, but it is spoiled by bad writing, and the images don't really help.

Still, the text is not actively hateful or false, and the image is not copypasta from a previous "comic", so this is the best Mallard Fillmore in months!

Wait -- does this mean Mallard is dissing the "Left Behind" novels? I would have thought those were among the only books he'd be willing to read.
