Memorial Day

In memory, I'm taking the day off from ragging on Mallard.

A tribute to all those soldiers in Korea, Vietnam, Granada, and Iraq, whose sacrifice has made a difference to our freedom.

I read this every Memorial Day. It's amazing how it still holds up. Whenever I listen to old punk songs decrying the paranoia towards the east, I replace "communism" with "terrorist" and it's remarkable how timely it remains.

President Bush laying wreaths at veterans' graves is a travesty. He might as well be pissing on it - it would be just as honest. He doesn't care. He's going to his grave with no doubts that he did a good, righteous thing. That might be the biggest tragedy of Iraq.

As someone with friends who have served and died over there, an AWOL fratboy "honoring" their sacrfice ON A FUCKING LIE is probably the most offensive thing I have ever seen in my entire life.

Something confuses me here. Isn't the folded flag supposed to be given when a veteran dies? If so, why does the veteran in the comic have one of these?

Actually, I think that's Grandpa going through a photo album with Grandson and it's the young boy's Dad who is missing.

That makes more sense. It's probably just me, but the first thing that comes to mind when veterans are mentioned is World War II.
