Jimmy Carter.
Can I confess that, just in a general sense, I enjoy the way that everything President Carter does causes out-of-proportion apoplexy among the Right Wing Rabies Carriers? It's not because I agree or disagree with President Carter...it's just the way they go atomic and he refuses to give a rat's ass. For that fact alone, I love the man.
I believe this specific reference must refer to President Carter's visit to Hamas. His fairly rational assessment that any Middle East solution will, of necessity, involve Hamas being part of the political process cannot go over well with the foot-stamping, breath-holding, saber-rattling crowd of idiots who are still waiting for this approach to bear fruit.
When you consider that, in 1982, Ronald Reagan removed Iraq from the list of states supporting international terrorism and sent Special Envoy Donald Rumsfeld to shake hands with Saddam Hussein, it's also spectacularly hypocritical.
Not that there's anything unusual about that...I'm just saying.

No one wants to admit it, but the real reason America threw Carter out on his ear was because Carter told us the truth about weathering economic crisis and gas shortages, and Reagan made sugary promises about spending magic money and never paying it back.
That's the difference between a genuine conservative and a neocon, right there.
The Carter/Hamas thing seems strangely timely for this strip - It can't have been more than a week since it was reported - or have I turned into Rip Van Winkle?
Jimmy Carter is not only honest and moral but fearless as well, all traits notably absent from Bush/Cheney/Clinton, et al. who spout the usual lines blindly supportive of whatever Israel does, and who are all too happy to see the Palestinians treated worse than dogs.
I'm just old enough to remember Carter's presidency and will concede he wasn't a terribly great chief executive... but he wasn't corrupt or morally clueless, unlike certain current occupants of the executive branch I could name.
I admire the hell out Jimmy Carter--sure, his presidency may not have been the most efficacious, but I'm not sure the office has ever been held by someone as *good.* Not that I'm all that keen on religion, but if we HAVE to have a Christian in the White House, it ought to be one like Carter.
But his post-presidential career, is phenomenal. And did you see him on the Daily Show recently? Eighty-three years old and sharp as a tack. Would that we all could manage that.
It's not surprising that an admirer of that shithead Reagan would have it in for Carter, but it does show you just how fucked up the Tinz's value system is. As if anyone needed a reminder.
Carter told us the truth
Exactly. Too many people prefer denial to unpleasant facts.
Carter's a very smart and principled guy; his one failing is that he wasn't a very good b.s. artist. Hopefully Obama (...to pick a name at random ...) will be better at it.
