That damned fear

What's Mallard raving about today?

Fear. President Obama.

Oh. My. God.

Eight years of President Bush & Vice President Cheney without a peep about fear-mongering.

Less than 2 months into President Obama's term, with two wars and a global Recession of massive proportion, both of which were inherited from President Bush, and now Mallard goes to the "fear itself" gag?

What color is the sky where you live, Mallard?

It's to be expected. It was a corner they like him in. Either he'll get accused of sugar-coating and turning everything into fluffy fun bunny rabbits, or he's a tyrant fear-monger who delights in nobody being able to sleep at night.

The only thing you have to fear is the virus that turned FDR's chin into an avocado, and yours into a banana.

That FDR is the best caricature Tinsley has ever done. I wonder who he copied it from.

12xUser: did you notice the signature in today's "comic"?

I don't think Tinkley copied so much as subcontracted.

As to the "substance" of today's "comic":

Thank heavens Obama's predecessor in office NEVER used fear to get America to launch a war of aggression, spy on his political rivals without warrants or change the shoe-wearing habits of air travelers!

Agreed that the FDR caricature is unusually well-executed. Too bad it's entirely redundant.

Any reader unable to pick up the reference based Obama's speech bubble alone is unlikely to know who the guy in the thought bubble is.

This seems to be the source image. Did Tinsley contract "Van Valer" to trace that, and then added his own avocado sized chin afterward? The art and writing are both completely devoid of quality - what the hell did he need outside help for?! Maybe Van Valer is a brand of whiskey.

This is in code, and it's addressed to the New Deal denialists who blame FDR for the great depression. That crowd is setting up to blame Obama for this one. One of the anonymous posters (perhaps a Tinkley sock puppet) did that here a few weeks ago.

Check the comments at Krugman's blog,or Mark Thoma's. It's the party of "no," and they scare the hell out of me.

So now honesty and frankness are the same thing is fear-mongering? I guess Mallard thinks that we should just ignore the recession and it will go away.

This is an AP story...
Analysis: Obama recovery plans sowing some unease
By TOM RAUM

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama offered his domestic-policy proposals as a "break from a troubled past." But the economic outlook now is more troubled than it was even in January, despite Obama's bold rhetoric and commitment of more trillions of dollars.

And while his personal popularity remains high, some economists and lawmakers are beginning to question whether Obama's agenda of increased government activism is helping, or hurting, by sowing uncertainty among businesses, investors and consumers that could prolong the recession.

Although the administration likes to say it "inherited" the recession and trillion-dollar deficits, the economic wreckage has worsened on Obama's still-young watch.

Every day, the economy is becoming more and more an Obama economy.

More than 4 million jobs have been lost since the recession began in December 2007 — roughly half in the past three months.

HOW TO START EACH DAY WITH A POSITIVE OUTLOOK

1. Create a new file in your computer.

2. Name it 'Barack Obama'.

3. Send it to the Recycle Bin.

4. Empty the Recycle Bin.

5. Your PC will ask you: 'Do you really want to get rid of 'Barack Obama?'

6. Firmly Click 'Yes.'

7. Feel better?

Tomorrow we'll do Nancy Pelosi!

Good catch, rewinn. I can't believe that I missed that "co-artist" credit. Actually, I can't believe I believed that Tinsley drew it.

@ Jazzbumba:

Honestly, some of the loons that leave comments on Krugman's blog are downright scary.

If something that deeply pathetic makes tinzanonymous's day, I would recommend that he seriously reevaluate his life. Regrettably, however, that would require some degree of self-awareness. Oh well!

The last time I heard that lame joke, it was written thusly:

How to start your day with a positive attitude:

1. Create a "new folder" on your computer.
2. Name it "George W. Bush".
3. Send it to the trash.
4. Empty the trash.
5. Your computer will ask you: "Do you really want to delete "George W. Bush"?
6. Calmly answer, "Yes", and press the mouse button firmly...

It took a few years of country-ruining to get that one though; like a trojan virus that took 8 years to uninstall. I'd wish that people would give the Obama a chance. At only 2 months, Obama is still in the Install Wizard phase of his presidency.

With all respect, Mr. Cut'n'paste troll, I have one for you:

I know media matters is evil libruls. But it contains the criticism of a conservative about Raum's article, which would be worth reading, right? Especially when he's one of sacred Reagan's old workers?

RE the party of "No!", I think the thought process was along the lines of:

- St. Ronnie was popular
- Mrs. St. Ronnie gave us "Just say no" as the solution to our drug problems
- Since our drug problems have been solved, it must work
- And besides, St. Ronnie was popular
- Ergo, "Just say no" is a multi-purpose slogan.

And, after all, it's just as empty in this context as it was in its original.

WV: subgxzj. "Subprime" as spelled by Mallard once he's in his cups.

rewinn -

That is classic. I'm definitely going to steal it.
