Funny, isn't it, how after the last eight years the public no longer considers the word "liberal" to be derogatory?

And funny, isn't it, how Tinsley hasn't figured that out?

(Eds. note: Obama is about as liberal as Clinton was, which is to say, not very. But the only Democrat that Tins probably wouldn't paint with the "liberal" brush is Lieberman...)

(WV: "Equitin." What we hope will describe Roland Burris soon.)

Tinsh used this "punchline" in the fall of 2002 for a strip starring Tom Daschle. I'd link, but finding it would mean trawling the Mallard archive at Likudnik World Review, and that's not a task to undertake on an empty stomach. Or indeed a full one.

1] Obvious point #1: Has Obama ever mentioned Rush Limbaugh, even once (at least in the current context). I mean I understand that strawman argument and --not to put too fine a point on it-- outright lie are standard tools in Tinsley's arsenal, but this is a bit silly.

2] Obvious point #2: To pick a name at random: How about, oh, Valerie Plame?

In Mallard's world, poor Rush Limbaugh is just sitting there, minding his own business, when he gets attacked by Obama, who needs to create some issue to distract people from his terrible failures in the most important issue of the day, which is national defense.

How did Obama "go after" Limbaugh? I don't remember any attack ads or dirt on the guy mysteriously arriving at the press' door. If they meant to attack him, they would have a wealth of topics to bring up.

But Limbaugh wasn't the target. Moderate thinking Republicans were the target. Limbaugh was just the fuse.

Honestly, it was such a brilliant tactic I still can't believe Democrats thought of it and pulled it off. They implied through multiple people and venues (in the kind of coordinated talking point dissemination that I've only seen come out of the other side) that Limbaugh is the head of the conservative movement. When the head of the RNC finally responds and says he isn't, the uproar from a small dedicated segment of voters is so strong that he has to apologize, within hours, and mention Rush's "leadership" in the process.

Moderates and fiscal conservatives, who are having doubts about the Republican party after that whole Palin thing, see their leader sheepishly bowing before a radio blowhard (one who doesn't let his 3 divorces, drug use, and sex tourism stop him from declaring himself the figurehead of morality). Maybe they stay home during the next election. Maybe they split off and found their own party. Maybe they revolt and take the Republican party back from the wingnuts. It doesn't matter. The Republican party has been weakened, one way or another.

WV: funcry. Insert joke here.

Let us all BEG Tinkleyto keep reminding us that Rush Limbaugh is the leader of American conservativism.

Limbaugh's motivation is to keep this going, since (regardless of how it destroys the republican party) it profits him personally. What a wonderful proof of Milton Friedman/Ayn Rand's theories!

As Anon7:41 said, Obama needs to do nothing except (of course) his job. All the rest of us needs to do is point out the facts: as Harry Truman said, "I'm not giving them hell; I'm telling the truth and to the Republicans it seems like hell!"

Republican "moderates" should remember the Bible verse: "Live by the sorehead, die by the sorehead!"

Looking at this from another angle, Obama has created an Iraq withdrawal plan that even the Republicans were satisfied with and is getting ready to flood Afghanistan with troops. How, then, is he weak on defense?

Replace "my critics" with "Bruce Tinsley" and you'll have the answer.

Hey Anonymous, On the Media had a great piece on the development of the Limbaugh meme by the Democrats. You can listen to it here.

NLC:
Obvious point #1: President Obama warned Republicans on Capital Hill that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.
Daveyk...who is the one whining? Yes, the President of the United States.

Obvious point #2: Plame was not "outed" by Libby, Fitzgerald knew this before the trial started. But he let it go on and on hoping to find some deep dark secret to nail Bush, Cheney and Rove. It did not work.

1. Obama warns Republicans that they shouldn't be in lockstep with Limbaugh. This is the ONLY time he mentions the man.

2. Republicans all trip over their dicks to profess their undying loyalty for the fat sack of shit.

3. ???

4. Profit!

Brucnonymous:

Obvious point #1: OK, I concede I was incorrect. Apparently Obama has made a reference to Limbaugh in the past several months.

Now, perhaps you could explain to us why a single passing reference equates to "all my presidential powers, all the [etc] at my disposal." (that is, in any world other than MF-land).

Obvious point #2: Nice try, but what Fitzgerald may or may not have known is not really the point here, now is it.

In any case, the critical phrase here is "pick a name random. Why don't you think about this for a few more minutes and see if you can come up with a few other names of folks whose lives, careers and reputations were trashed for daring to question the Bush/Rove/Cheney crew.

Then think for a couple more minutes how this compares to the unspeakable suffering inflicted on poor Rush.

#2 from above has been especially amusing.

Criticize Rush Limbaugh.
Apologize.
Rinse.
Repeat.

This isn't Liberals doing this. It's not even a straw man, unless the quotes are lies. The Republican politicians know they have lost and can't decide whether to stick to their guns, stick it to the man, or stick it where the sun don't shine. And they're trying all three at once and tripping over each other to do it.

Oh, look, Anonymous is deceptively presenting a partial quote out of context.

But then again, that's the only thing the Republican party is capable of anymore.

Rush Limbaugh and his thoughts on Barack Obama. Part 1 and Part 2. Watch and listen to the videos. It would be interesting to witness a one on one discussion between Limbaugh and Obama sans BO's teleprompter. Rush Limbaugh has asked Obama to come on his show to talk about our country but Obama can only tell others "don't listen to Rush Limbaugh" and his liberal media followers work it for months. What is Obama afraid of? Probably the truth!

p.s. One can always count on this very tough guy, angry at the world person "GeoX" to inject his pathetic comments. Think you will ever be 1% as successful or as well known as Rush Limbaugh? No he did not go to college but is so much more intelligent than any Democrat I have known or seen which includes our learned President BHO. Could it be that you are simply jealous of him like most of the main stream media? Last contract, 8 years for $400 million. Most listened to radio talk show ever. Lastly...did I not see where you once blogged that you had lost over 50 pounds your last two years of college? Just how large of a "fat sack of shit" are you?

Good lord, I do declare that Geox has gone and given the Duckfart the vapors! Oh me, oh my, how could he say such mean and terrible things about Rush? I bet Geox doesn't even have 1% of Rush's drug problem!

Perhaps Anonymous isn't Brucie after all. New theory: Anonymous is an 11-year-old Dominican prostitute, furious that people are saying mean things about his best client.

AnonyTinkley: No-one said Libby outed Plame; Libby committed perjury to protect the person who ordered the outing.

Your link to WorldNetDaily is funny in so many ways. First, it's by Hal Lindsay --- isn't that the guy who spent the 1970s predicting the imminent Return of Jesus and Destruction of the Earth? Yeah, that's a credible source.

Lindsay claims Plame wasn't covert (and that therefore, outing her wasn't a crime), but that's simply a lie. Lindsay should be glad the rapture didn't happen when he predicted, what with the 8th Commandment and all.

It's pretty funny that, according to you, Libby committed perjury to cover up something that never happened.

Is he just stupid, or are you?

(P.S. Armitage's role doesn't matter; there's physical evidence that Cheney originated the "junket" line of attack on Wilson, which is why Libby had to perjure himself. Several of Cheney's minions were tasked with the outing job, but of the journalists they approached, only Robert Novak was traitor enough to go public. Thus you conclude it's Armitage's outing, when in fact the treason was a team effort.)

One thing I will say for Rush: he doesn't hide behind "Anonymous". He's a loudmouthed sorehead, but his ego prevents him from anonymity.... unlike Anonymous Coward.

Obama is a wimp. Remember when George W. Bush debated Rachel Maddow face-to-face last year, and then appeared on the Daily Show the very next week? That was awesome.

Obama's exact words, the only public mention of Limbaugh I'm aware of, were "You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done".

Characterizing this statement as a demand that Congressional Republicans must stop listening to him is either inaccurate or disingenuous.

Maybe that's why the linked Fox News story that makes exactly such a characterization is credited to "NY Post" instead of having a proper byline.
