That damned Duplication

What's Mallard raving about today?

Big Government

Mallard, clearly, has never actually worked in a private company and knows nothing about the reality of business. Because, once a business reaches a certain size, there is duplication everywhere you look.

I work for an airline.
The airline has more than one pilot.

Heh. Hehehehe. Hehehe. Private companies don't have redundancy. Ohhh man. That's funny.

I don't have hard figures, but I'm pretty sure -most- people should be getting a refund.

Also, you don't pay your taxes on April 14th; you pay them year round with every paycheck. April 14th is the time you tally up last years payments and see if anything was under or over paid. See above.

But hey, if Bruce hate having government, he should totally feel free to move to any number of other free-market laissez-faire nations out there. Somalia is lovely this time of year. Think of the freedom!

Also, 'Uncle Spam again"? Who the fu... I've been slogging through this dreck for two years, when the hell has this hi-larious and clever caricature ever appeared before?

I'll give him this. I worked in a private company for a decade and a half, and for much of that time, I was the sole source for handling the mechanics of ad production and web page. No redundancy, just me and hope nothing goes wrong. I can't imagine why you wouldn't want a system like that for things like our highways, traffic lights, fire departments, and all that.

Mallard Fillmore duplicates right-wing talk points, and should therefore be eliminated.

Tinshley is self-employed and clearly doesn't pay his taxes in quarterly installments, like self-employed people are directed to do, so he's always horrified that the social contract drains his drinkin' money every April. The problem is, he doesn't seem to realize that the vast majority of people are neither as dim nor as irresponsible as he is. But that really applies to every subject he tackles, not just taxes.

Why does this dickhead feel the need to make shit up? Really? Department of duplication? Isn't there enough real stuff to make fun of?

I wonder if the anthropomorphic pig in the Uncle Sam costume could get treatment for that eye condition if we had single-payer health coverage.

1/10 of a point for the mildly clever moniker "Uncle Spam" to represent pork in federal government. I don't know why he says "it's me AGAIN," though, as I've been suffering this strip for 3 or 4 years and have never seen him before.

Also, seems to me like the declaration that several instances have been found of duplication of effort in government is the first step in eliminating that waste, so I dunno what Tinz is getting all giddy about.

"The U.S. Department of Doing the Same Thing as the U.S. Department of Duplicate Programs"?

Really, Brewski? It took you 15 words (depending on how you count "U.S.") to say that?

Firesign Theatre managed to do it in 4 words: "Department of Redundancy Department".

He must be one of those people who take 10 minutes to tell a 2-line joke. I can only imagine his version of "Why does the chicken cross the road?"

I can only imagine his version of "Why does the chicken cross the road?"

"This just in... a new report from the Fillmore Foundation suggests..."

"...studies of the road-crossing habits of chickens..."

"...have shown that a leading cause of the behavior is to get away from liberal vegans who want to eat them*...."

* The Internet.
