Jay Kennedy

What's Mallard talking about today?

The recently deceased Jay Kennedy.

No smart-ass comments today; 51 is just too young.

The sentiment of today's strip is nice, if it existed in a vacuum, but given the nature of the strip it seems disingenuous of Tinshley. Yes, Jay Kennedy was a good man, a liberal who was willing to reach across the aisle to help out someone on the other side of the political spectrum.

And Tinshley repaid Kennedy by making straw men of his beliefs and crapping all over them for over a decade. Whee!

This strip should be poignant, but it just comes across as ass-covering in the wake of tragedy.

Anyone really know if Tinshley and Kennedy really were friends, rather than business colleagues who get together for drinks at conventions and the like?

It is classy, but dlauthor is right.

This guy helped Mallard get published, then attacked him s beliefs at every turn.

Maybe they had a great relationship where politcs were irrelevant.

In Ann Coulter's book "How to talk to a Liberal" (collection of columns) there is one where she talks about the one liberal she likes, JFK jr.

While attacking all he believed in on the previous and following pages.

I agree, no snark today. I just wish he had managed to write this without using the word "liberal" at all. It shouldn't matter.

I don't understand the point of posts 1 and 2. They disagreed on issues, but Kennedy hired Tinsley knowing his politics and didn't make his job contingent on changing his politics to suit his boss. Would Kennedy have wanted Tinsley to kiss ass by agreeing with his boss's beliefs? Obviously not.

...but was he fond of Tinsley making shit up to smear vaguely-defined "liberals?" It seems unlikely.

I don't think it's safe to assume that if Tinsley describes a guy as "liberal" that he would also consider himself a liberal.

Tinsley probably thinks John McCain is a liberal.

Anyway, today's strip is another goddamn global warming thing. Fuck that shit. Tinsley doesn't get a day of respite because his editor died too young. He's a fucking asshole EVERY day.

Kinda reminds me of the thing with the gay AIDS victim who helped Rush Limbaugh get his start.

I was expecting at least one person to have the same reaction that Dorothy Parker had when Calvin Coolidge died. ("Tinshley's editor died? How could they tell?")

However, the Comics Reporter obit linked by Erich describes him as editor in chief. Thus, we can assume that the guy who (nominally) edits Tinshley's specific "work" is still out there somewhere, his sole remnant of job being to let Tinshley know when he's outright said something legally actionable rather than just smarmily implying it.

Hey, there, Bruce. I mean, "anonymous."

There's a difference between ass-kissing and respect. I'm sure you wouldn't mind at all, though, if you gave someone his big break and he spent his entire career -- up until the day you died -- essentially calling you an evil moron because he disagreed with something you believe. In that case, let me know when you're hiring.
