That damned doctrine

What's Mallard raving about today?

The Fairness Doctrine.

"Apparently" they are thinking about making a sequel...only, not in any reality-based sense.
The House voted overwhelmingly Thursday to prohibit the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from using taxpayer dollars to impose the Fairness Doctrine on broadcasters who feature conservative radio hosts such as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

By a vote of 309-115, lawmakers amended the Financial Services and General Government appropriations bill to bar the FCC from requiring broadcasters to balance conservative content with liberal programming such as Air America.
Ever since Don Imus was booted from the airwaves, Right Wing gasbags are preemptively painting themselves as saintly victims whose days are numbered by First Amendment-hating zealots.

Not surprisingly, Mallard swallows this hook, line, and sinker. And repeats the claim without basis. And then compounds it all by attempting a tenuous analogy between legislation and a movie sequel.

Wait, I'm confused. The Liberals, as depicted by Tinny, are too stupid to live more than a few days on their own...yet they have this unbreakable conspiracy-based strangehold on all media; that's the entire basis of Mallard's delusional "little guy speaks truth to power" self-image.

And yet there are all these right-wing pundits and neocon talking heads on the boob tube, on the radio, in the paper, and in every magazine this side of Mother Earth...and they're all simultaneously laughing at, and pissing their pants in terror of, Air America?

Can't have it both ways, Bruce. Which is it?

It is both ways.

If a conservative talking head is not insane, he self-medicates to make it so.

Or they've already mastered cloning.

And yes, that is a scary sequel to the original - nothing! Won't that mean my paper will stop carrying this garbage?

Besides, I forgot where I saw it, but in the '80s, a lot of laws were passed for the purpose of consolidating media (Rupert Murdoch) and making it as biased as possible - towards money. Hence the sex.

If I don't know what I'm talking about, I just turned 19 - born at the end of Reagan's term, I don't quite remember him in office.

I'm afraid! We're gonna hear different points of view! I'm gonna have to choose! My brain can't handle two opposing thoughts at once! Stop this madness!

One month he's bashing higher education for not having a "balanced view", stating that they need to hire more conservatives so that university students aren't unfairly subjected to one sided opinions they don't agree with.

The next...

Good one, Exanonymous. I read a bit recently about the YouTube debates, where some nitwit praised the concept because it's a potential platform for "global warming skeptics who don't buy into all this science stuff."

*facepalm*
