That damed elitist

What's Mallard raving about today?

Barack Obama.

This is an astoundingly hypocritical criticism, even for an empty-headed water carrier/echo chamber like Mallard, when he himself described his chosen Presidential candidate as a bon vivant.

Apparently it was OK in January for a Presidential candidate to enjoy the finer things in life, but not anymore. Or Mallard does not actually know what bon vivant means.

So Barack Obama is a wine expert, and cannot turn that part of his brain off, even when drinking the most non-elite alcohol on the planet. (Which smells terrible!)

Who knew?

Besides, wasn't Hillary the one filmed drinking beer?

It has been more than 2 weeks since the first "elitist" accusations started, what gives with the delay?

And for the timeliness of yesterday's mess? MAD magazine had a bit on the superdelegates in their latest issue. I don't have to tell you the lead time for a monthly magazine...

How dare he be able to appreciate the flavor of a beer and describe that flavor in words?! REAL Americans (like Mallard) all know that you don't drink beer for the taste...

'Cause gosh darn it, a man who knows anything about anything is just too dang smart to be President.

Of course, the people who really think this are the same people who get enraged at his former CHRISTIAN pastor while still suspecting him of being a MUSLIM. Good lord does my head hurt.

Don't expect consistency from Tinsley- didn't he slam Hillary's success as being due to her famous name? Yet, I'm sure, he believes our current president got where he did on talent and ability alone.

Ugh...shoot me. Heaven forbid Obama drink a quality beer. Anything more flavorful than Old Style tall boys is strictly forbidden.

Everyone knows that Real Amurkins like Tinshley only drink beer that tastes like cat's piss.

Then they go for a drive!

So, liking good beer makes you an elitist? This whole line of attack is such bullshit. People who like lattes, brie, microbrews, arugula, and whatever other food some ignorant backward-assed country asshole has never heard of are somehow elitist snobs because of the food they like to eat? What the fuck? How am I to know what is good non-elitist food? If I avoid all that stuff, how am I to know that next week it's not going to be sushi or Thai food or cilantro that defines elitism?

Who has decided that bowling, NASCAR, cheap-ass pisswater beer, Philly fucking cheesesteak sandwiches with Cheez-whiz, and rot-gut bus station vending machine coffee are what defines the average Joe? Who has decided that this sort of aggressive ignorance is a good thing? It's just a way to magnify the importance of people who live in areas that are typically conservative, and ridicule people who live in more liberal, generally urban areas, people who are more likely to be exposed to a broader range of choices.

You're all missing the obvious: Tinsley's driving record makes it clear he doesn't taste the booze as it goes down - he just chugs as much as possible as fast as possible. Anybody who'd actually taste beer is therefore a peacenik or something.

Did he just color an old caricature of John Kerry in black? The whole thing might just be a strip from four years ago, and we wouldn't even know it.

As a beer nerd myself, I take particular offense here. By the way, if his taste in beer is that sophisticated, it means that he's drank a LOT of beer. Good beer, from California and Oregon. What's wrong having a president with good taste?

I'll put a small amount of actual money (a very small amount) on Tinsley not really knowing what "bon vivant" means. You know, big words that sound smart (it's okay for him to aspire to adequacy).

Also, tastebuds are for elitists. Years spent drinking drain cleaner and similar fine beverages will take a toll on taste and probably smell as well.

Tune in tomorrow, when Tinsley finishes the sentence in today's strip!

...or not. Complete thoughts are for elitists. And not just reggler elitists, either: We're talking super-elitist elitists who spell it "élitist." The horror!

I'll repeat what I said earlier, but I find it incredibly amusing that Mallard insists that some arbitrary cultural signifier makes him superior to his opponents - because it makes them elitist.

Didn't Mallard a couple of weeks ago say that JFK would be too conservative to be the Republican candidate now? It's a debatable assertion at best, but obviously he meant it as a good thing. And Kennedy was definitely not a Bud and Cheez-Wiz guy. For that matter neither was Reagan.
