That damned Past

What's Mallard raving about today?

The Past, Bill Clinton, The Media

Just yesterday?

Seriously, are you suggesting those 8 years of Bush & Cheney just flew by? Because it sure did not feel that way to me.

Yeah, those years of relative peace and strong economic growth were horrible. I don't know how we as a country survived all that. We hardly bombed ANY darkies then!

Of course, we should probably assume that Ducky thinks that Bill Clinton killed Vince Foster himself , wiped up the blood with Monica Lewinsky's dress, and buried him in the whitewater land grabs before selling launch codes to al Qaeda.

Bill Clinton left office with the highest approval rating of any president since WWII. This is after being impeached. This approval rating rose fairly steadily throughout his entire 8 years. Bush has high approval ratings, but these spikes coincide with his approval of military attacks and drop rapidly to be the lowest on record.

So I guess Mallard is saying things will be better if Obama is like Clinton?

They cannot let it go with Clinton. I always ask what they didn't like - the peace or prosperity?

Yeah, another parallel is that the economy was in the dumper because of the fecklessness of a dimwitted president named Bush then, too.

15 years ago was 1994.

Clinton took the oath of office at the beginning of 1993.

"Brand-new?" I didn't realize the delay was that bad, Tinshley. Or were you too drunk to notice back then, too?

On the plus side: I'm glad whenever anyone age 47 is called "young".

On the minus side: Are we going to get three more days of Mallard Fillmore restrospectives?

Given the smug look on Mallard's face (quite a common occurrence, actually), is he suggesting another fifteen years of his "keeping an eye" on "teh libruls"? Oh God...

WV: "suffs": a breakfast "cereal" made entirely out of tiny marshmallows.

It's worth noting that "libertarian" commentator Bruce Tinsley has drawn over 150 Obama comics in the time this blog has existed, and Obama has been president less than five months; nearly 30 Clinton comics and Clinton has been out of office over eight years; but only eight Bush comics despite him holding office the majority of that time. And of those eight, nearly all were VERY complimentary.

Basically Bruce is just another neo-con who holds neo-con beliefs but wants to call himself by another label. No wonder the right thinks calling those of us on the left "LIBERALS," when that's what we are, is such an insult. They don't understand that embracing what you are should be a good thing.

Peace don't matter. Prosperity don't matter. Aint nuthin' matters. The key to understanding right wingers is to realize they hate anyone who aint them. End of story.

WV: ingpht - what wing nuts have instead of insight.

What does it say that this comic's "punchline" is blindingly obvious from about halfway through the first line?

Oh yeah, it means that Tinsley is a lazy hack. That was actually pretty self-evident.

Kyle - I think those statistics count from when this blog was started (mid to late 2006).

Of course, in all this time Tinsley still hasn't learn to draw Bill Clinton well enough that he doesn't have to label him.

D'oh - I need to read other people's posts more carefully; I thought Kyle was talking about the whole history of this wonderful come strip.

Sure, Mallard thought at first this "15 Years Ago" gambit was going to be a gold mine but now he's tearing his hair out trying interweave media favoritism of Obama with a tasteful quip about Kurt Cobain's suicide.

In 15 years, there have been TWO count them TWO Mallard Fillmore collections, neither of them in this century IIRC.

Even at the height of Bush-o-mania, no-one wanted to pay for this stuff.

In other words: the market decided.

damn those liberals!
