Those damned Fans

What's Mallard raving about today?

President Obama, Bill O'Reilly, The Media.

Talk about status-quo...Mallard Fillmore's relationship to fact remains tenuous at best.

I do want to give special notice the way in which Mallard Fillmore advocates de facto appeasement toward domestic terrorism based on the grounds that the victims are "fans" of an entirely legal procedure which he abhors.

Otherwise, you'd think he might feel obligated to point out that the Bush Administration DHS report on Right-Wing Extremism, which he decried so fervently, turned out to be prescient.

The strip implicitly includes "Colonizing Muslim Nations" under things "[the US] never did".

Oh really? It'd be interesting to hear a response from a citizen on the street who lived under, say, The Shah in Iran, the military governments of Indonesia, or, for that matter, the current government of Iraq.

One might quibble over the technical meaning of "colonize", but it seems likely that the subject of your interview would recognize much of a difference.

[make that "...wouldn't recognize much of a difference."]

More generally, the theme of this week's strips seems to be "If the Bush Administration did it, there can't be any reason to apologize."

Are we to infer that Dick Cheney has been brought in as guest gag writer?

What does it say about a comment when Googling it only brings up other comments by Ann Coulter & Co. and not the original speech?

Thank you for the quotes around "fan". Out of everything else offensive about this slop, that really ticks me of the most. Yes, people are big "fans" of this procedure.*gag*

Thank you, Tinsley, for employing the calculating semantic technique of "pro-lifers" where supporters of women's reproductive rights (yes, that's the verbage I choose to use) are "pro-abortion". Recently, some of these wingnuts mounted a campaign against birth control (see the Pill Kills) and when, to their consternation, people took issue with their "logic", they labelled those dissenters as "pro-promiscuity".

Perhaps we should call members of the NRA fans of wanton violence. Bill O'Reilly is a fan of lawelessness. Tinsley is a fan of drinking until you can't see straight, then getting behind the wheel. He's also pro-hypocrisy.

Welp, looks like Bruce didn't have any ideas that day, either.

Seriously, though -- if you're working with a known two-to-three-week lead time, assuming you can even make out the calendar through the alcoholic haze, maybe you don't so much want to base your strip around a framework of things "continuing" to happen.

(Freudian typo alert: when I first typed "looks like Bruce" above, I accidentally typed "kooks like Bruce.")

Since it's footnoted in a Mallard Failmore strip, I assume "Colonizing Muslim Nations" is a publication of some sort? Maybe a magazine full of tips on how to fight a modern-day Crusade?

I loved the last panel:

The murderer of Dr. Tiller blames society for making him gun down the guy in cold blood.

Bush, Cheney, Rummy and Rice blame society for lying us into a war that has killed thousands.

Tinkley blames society for forcing him to invent a "colonizing Muslim nations" quote.

===

In Obama's actual speech in Cairo (as opposed to the one that the voices in Tinkley's head told him about) Obama referred to "colonialism", which is an historical fact. For Tinkley to say that Obama said that America colonized Muslim nations is simply a lie.

No wonder he has to work 90 hours a week! Truth is simple, lies are hard.

It's frustrating to try to debate someone who is working with a completely different set of facts from Bizarro World, especially when they, like Tinsley, Mark Levin, Hannity, etc., never try to debate their non-existent "facts" but rather go straight to formulating arguments based off those Bizarro Facts, so you're perpetually arguing two steps behind them. It's like this:

"Obama is an American-hating socialist because he thinks the sky is blue! Ha! He's nothing like us orange-sky Great Americans!"

"But... the sky IS blue. That's a fact."

"Wait, you think the sky is blue too?"

"Well, yes."

"Gasp! You hate America and capitalism too!"

Hibryd said...

Follow up:

"No, look, whether someone likes America or capitalism has nothing to do with whether they think the sky is blue or orange."

"So you ADMIT you don't know what color the sky is?"

"No! That's not what I'm arguing about. Besides, it's blue!"

"So you ADMIT you hate America and capitalism?"

(I gotta stop listening to right-wing radio on my way in to work. But darned if rage doesn't wake me up.)

Gee gosh, I'm a "fan" of late term abortion. Who knew? I just thought I disliked murder.

ps: Recognizable O'Reilly pic! I find this stunning. Of course, if he was a liberal, he'd be cross-eyed, slack-jawed and have a nine-inch dick for a chin.

Tinsley must support late term abortions or be subliterate-those are the only explanations for the wording of this comic. I agree that seeing those brats scream and shit themselves maes me support post term abortions.

A google search suggests that the latest Republican bullshit is that the Musbims have conquered Europe through street gangs [http://usapartisan.blogspot.com/2009/03/dead-culture-walking-muslim.html] and contriuted nothing to society throughout thousands of years [http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/026496.php.] Tinsley has damaged so much of his brain that he can no longer remember propaganda.

----------------------------------
-More recently, tension has been fed by colonialism that denied rights and opportunities to many Muslims, and a Cold War in which Muslim-majority countries were too often treated as proxies without regard to their own aspirations. Moreover, the sweeping change brought by modernity and globalization led many Muslims to view the West as hostile to the traditions of Islam.
...
As a student of history, I also know civilization's debt to Islam. It was Islam - at places like Al-Azhar University - that carried the light of learning through so many centuries, paving the way for Europe's Renaissance and Enlightenment. It was innovation in Muslim communities that developed the order of algebra; our magnetic compass and tools of navigation; our mastery of pens and printing; our understanding of how disease spreads and how it can be healed. Islamic culture has given us majestic arches and soaring spires; timeless poetry and cherished music; elegant calligraphy and places of peaceful contemplation. And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality.
...
So I have known Islam on three continents before coming to the region where it was first revealed. That experience guides my conviction that partnership between America and Islam must be based on what Islam is, not what it isn't. And I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear...-

-Obama, a speech at Cairo University, June fourth [http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/04/obama-speech-in-cairo-vid_n_211215.html.]-

I suppose the first paragraph of that quote might be horribly misconstrued to fit the idea of this comic-by someone who suffered too much brain damage to interpret a simpbe statement.

It doesn't make up for the fact that the first panel is completely fabricated, but I agree: decent caricature. We don't even need a label to figure out who it is!

Hey, Tinsley, how does it feel to be a gigantic lying unpardonable cunt?

Frank Stone said...

In our "status-quo news" segment tonight, drunk driving fan Bruce Tinsley continues to use his tragically unfunny comic strip to demonstrate that he is a mindless tool of the Fox News Channel ...

... and Tinsley's use of the newspaper strip format continues to ensure that his lies, distortions, and talking points will have already been debunked by the time they see print.

Yes, as we all can see, poor Bill is the REAL victim here. If only people would take responsibility for their actions and irrational responses instead of blaming him or other things!

And Ducky continues to blame cops for being anti-drunk driver bigots.

Ahhh, the olde, "Liberals are un-American, non-human scum who deserved to be rounded up, executed, and buried in shallow mass graves. Oh hey, you can't blame ME for inciting violence against liberal dogs! *spit*" dodge.

This seems like a good cartoon to apply this technique (#4).

Now THIS is interesting. I'm very late to the party today. When I click the link to get to the cartoon at the seattlepi page, instread of the cartoon, there is a little box that says "Content Currently Unavailable."

Damn, I feel deprived.
