That damned Lemonade

What's Mallard raving about today?

Health Care Reform.

Yes, because the Insurance industry is just as sweet and lovable as a child running a lemonade stand.

I mean, it's not like they'd target customers diagnosed with breast cancer and then aggressively seek to cancel their policies, right?

But that's what freedom's all about!

The freedom to give your money to the wealthy, then have them kick you into the street like a dog when you want what you paid for!

Anything else is socialism!

Why can't you all just die quietly, so that Batshit's insane dogma may go unquestioned?

In related news: the GOP SOB who once claimed "Obamacare" was "the greatest threat to freedom I have seen in my 19 years in Washington" is now trying to claim credit for its popular aspects.

I think Mallard fully understands that the insurance companies are by and large immoral leeches on society. That's why he assumes the government took them over.

Sadly, the government did not. If only we had the same increases in premiums that postage stamp has seen. If only the departments of insurance companies in charge of denying or rescinding coverage were as ineffective as the government supposedly is.

And if only the government took over Afghanistan the way it "took over" the health insurance industry.

The only thing the government really took over was the right of a woman paying for private insurance to get a legal abortion.

Meanwhile, not only is Sickly Pricky defensive about the Teabaggers but even "Pluggers" is gently making fun of them.

I must have missed the strips where Lemonade Kid refused to give lemonade to people who were thirsty, and took the drinks away from anyone he realized was on the edge of heatstroke.

We should give Brucie a break, though, since his experience with lemonade of the non-Mike's-Hard variety is limited at best. He even refuses to pay anything to help his kids set up their own lemonade stand, because IT'S HIS MONEY DAMMIT and why should he subsidize the refreshing drink industry, especially when that refreshing drink doesn't have a proof number.

Okay so... I get that 'lemonade' = 'health care'.

But how the hell does 'not be thirsty' = 'not have health care'?

Wouldn't that translate, at best, to 'illegal to not be sick'? What the fuck, you dumb duck?

This is why one should never attempt to cooperate with Republicans. The "public option" gets jettisoned in favor of the Republican mandate idea to avoid charges of Socialized Medicine. And in the end, the lying sacks accuse you of Socializing medicine and criticize the mandate. And try to take credit for things they voted against.

Trying to work with sociopaths is just not worth it.

Shouldn't the sign on the health-care-lemonade-stand read "$125.00 a glass"?

One-panel sunday strip = a daily strip drawn bigger. Tinshley = lazyest "man" in "comics".

And as y'all said: if only it were true that health care were "taken over". The USPS, with all its faults, delivers standard care (e.g. 1st class mail) for 1/10th the price of private providers, anywhere in the USA. And what counts as a crisis for the USPS? Not being able to make money without raising prices 3% this year.

That kind of disaster our nation can use more of.

-------------------

Three weeks from now, we'll have a "comic" accusing Obama of doing nothing about the disaster in the Gulf. Spill Baby Spill!

The missing pannel of this "comic" is the girl denying him lemonaid because he has a pre existing thirst.

Maybe a good time to bring up this item from H.R. 3590, "Chapter 48—Maintenance of Minimum Essential Coverage", "SEC. 5000A, Requirement to Maintain Minimum Essential Coverage" (Page 131) (emphasis mine):

"(2) SPECIAL RULES.—Notwithstanding any other provision of law—
"(A) WAIVER OF CRIMINAL PENALTIES.—In the case of any failure by a taxpayer to timely pay any penalty imposed by this section, such taxpayer shall not be subject to any criminal prosecution or penalty with respect to such failure.
"(B) LIMITATIONS ON LIENS AND LEVIES.—The Secretary shall not
"(i) file notice of lien with respect to any property of a taxpayer by reason of any failure to pay the penalty imposed by this section, or
"(ii) levy on any such property with respect to such failure."

Oooh, scary! The big, bad guv'mint won't punish you or seize your property if you don't pay the fine for failing to purchase mandatory insurance! Boogah boogah!!

Does Tin even know what he's going for, or is this what we get when his fax machine is down and he can't get the day's talking point?

Hooray! Maybe under the Obamanade system, I'll be less likely to end up with a glass of lukewarm piss in lieu of lemonade, and maybe I won't get a bill for $4,000 three months after visiting the stand, once my beverage care provider has decided that they won't cover my purchase after all because some bean-counter decided that I was not in urgent need of refreshment.
