That damned baby

What's Mallard raving about today?

Racism, babies, Barack Obama.

Everyone see how this works now? It's sure going to cut down on the need for Mallard to do anything but cut and paste for the next 8 months...
A group of men said they were hurt when Senator Obama described their efforts as an "improbable experiment in democracy." This just in: groups of men accused of racism.

Yeesh. You know I'm no fan of Obama, but this is reeeeeaachiiiiiing. (Not as much as that awful Day By Day strip portraying Obama's wife as a Nazi, but still.)

Mallard's just sitting there, making no comment beyond that cocked eyebrow that occasionally replaces the Smug Smirk Of Assholishness.

That's because Tinsley knows that it's absolutely imperative that he/Mallard keep his mouth zipped shut here--he needs this fantasy baby who thinks in complete sentences to help him avoid personally voicing his side of the argument: that if one of Obama's daughters gets knocked up, she should be forced to bear the child in order that she be taught a lesson.

How's that make you feel, fictional little straw-baby? Don't worry, though: if you grow up and get killed in a war, Tinsley's okey-dokey with that (especially given your, um, varied heritage).

Why do I have the nasty feeling these are all attempts to blunt any real accusations of racism that might come up in the next few months? That way, when Bruce eventually makes his joke about fried chicken and orange soda being served at the inaugural dinner, he can pretend any outrage is overreaction.

Tomorrow's strip?

PANEL 1: "Today, Tinsley again mocked a serious attempt to talk straightforwardly about a serious issue."

PANEL 2: "In related news, Tinsley complained about the lack of serious, straightforward talk about serious issues."

ILLUSTRATION: Duck smirks.

How topical. How long now until he talks about Rev. Wright and the "bitter" comments? A month maybe?

Anyway, wasn't Obama talking about contraception, not abortion like Mallard wants everyone to think?

If unwanted pregnancies are punishment for everything, it's for the absolutely criminal sex education mandated by the fundies and the Bush regime.

Whoops, "anything." D'oh.

I guess Bruce read the out-of-context quote.

Babies were put up there with AIDS and other STDs. In other words, something a woman has to live with because she eventually caved to the pressure to have sex but didn't receive adequate safe sex education.

Zilch about abortion, though it's read that way. Ironic because he ties it in closely connected to AIDs, that thing people "deserve" as "punishment." But they who abuse the quote will omit that part because they actually do agree with the latter.

I will never understand why the right is as gung-ho about taking people out of the world as it is about bringing people into it (and vice versa). By all indications, they should be fanatically pro-choice.

So, this is what your world is like when you're sitting on your carpet drinking your box of whiskey.

WOWSERS.
