That damned Silence

What's Mallard raving about today?

Senator Boxer

In Mallard world, Senator Boxer requesting the correct form of address warrants two days of bleating.

In the real world, this was such a non-event that no one even heard about it.

The slide continues...

I viewed the exchange from the link that anonymous coward helpfully left in yesterday's comments. It's quite extraordinary: it was a perfectly polite exchange. Nobody involved offended anybody else. In a non-fucked-beyond-belief culture, it wouldn't merit a second glance. But in this one, it gives an opportunity for howling idiots like Tinsley to indulge in a favorite pastime: wallowing in a poisonous swamp of authoritarianism and not-even-slightly-veiled misogyny. This must be how Jesus would behave.

This is important because i read some guy's blog on the internet that agreed with me, so there.

Don't you do it! DON'T YOU DO IT!

I dunno, snarking on this run is like making fun of the mentally handicapped. It's just wrong to take advantage of those so unable to fend for themselves. The amount of willful ignorance required to write this drivel for two (and counting) days is staggering, to say nothing of writing AND expecting to be PAID for such services.

What's interesting (or perhaps predictable) is that Sen Boxer's comments are being framed as an attack on Gen Walsh. I don't think anyone has seriously suggested that Gen Walsh committed more than a slip of the tongue; certainly not that he deliberately intending to be disrespectful.

Rather, the real issue here is how the right-wing noise machine is responding to this non-incident.

I think it's sort of funny that when I checked this blog today, my first thought was "Oh, it wasn't updated."

Then I realized that it was, and Tinsley beats dead horses like it's going out of style.

He's makin' pudding, and it takes a LOT of beatin' to completely liquefy that hoss.

I wonder what Senator Ensign is being called around the house right now?

Senator Vitter?

Governor Sanford?

He's even got the talking points muddled: Why would Oprah, of all people, be running a "shocking expose" on a woman asking to be addressed by a respectful title?

OOH!! A classic one-two combination! Yeah! That'll put that uppity bitch in her place, huh, Brucie? In your rum-soaked fantasyland, anyway...

Way to jump the shark there, guy.

So what are the odds that in three weeks to a month we'll have a whole week on alleged-butt-ogling-gate? It's trivial, it's dishonest, it's Tinshley!

So...he took suggestions yesterday. We know his lead time is way too long for him to have the results the next day.

Can we just assume that Tinsley is hallucinating his "fan" mail from now on?

Where in that tiny mind and whithered soul is there enough room for all that hate?

I'm impressed.

And depressed.

Bad combo.

I'm not exactly sure how it's wrong for a senator to request to be addressed as senator.

Unless that senator's a woman I guess. Then she's just being humored by males and she shouldn't let it go to her head. Which is par for course for the wingnut crowd and their lack of understanding about feminism. A woman to a wingnut is only as good as she is, pardon the crassness, fuckable. Hence the obsession with how ugly/strong willed democratic women might be, overlooking the fact that many male leaders are less than stellar looking themselves.

It also explains some of the FOX news cast. And the former VP candidate. And partly Ann Coulter.
