That damned Test

Whats' Mallard raving about today?

Kim Jong-Il, President Obama, Fox Network.

Having spent the past 8 years ingesting a steady diet of Fox News and Rush Limbaugh, Mallard has, quite literally, forgotten that criticism of the President occurs.

This actually created a bit of a breakthrough for me. Tinsely and a lot of the other extremist pundits seem to think that their opposites (partisans of the other wing) think similarly to how they do. IE that any sort of dissent against their people is treason, that they go into apoplectic rages at any criticisms, what have you.

From his perspective Obama must have a loathing of Fox news that matches that of the loathing conservatives theoretically have for MSNBC. Mallard sees himself as the conservative answer to Doonesbury, and thus if conservatives/republicans scream in horror at Doonesbury then all liberals/democrats must look under their beds in fear of Mallard Fillmore.

That's my theory anyhow.

The north Korean crazy guy wouldn't do that. He doesn't do anything that makes him appear as less than a god to his people. And the last thing he would think about doing is supporting a network that proclaims themselves against the elected leader of the nation they broadcast in. Trying that in North Korea results in arrests and deaths, not jokes at dinner parties, which seems to be Obama's response to this "truth to the power" thing they think they have.

I'll be honest, I actually thought this was mildly funny. I'm sure it was entirely by accident though, and that the drunk duck will be back in usual form tomorrow.

I just don't see how a drawing of a garden gnome illustrates his point...

...oh. Wait.

Even if he gets hold of a novel idea, it's as if he has taken the precaution of completely wrapping everything in a protective coating of Unfunnium, lest it accidentally amuse anyone.

When Fox News was running our foreign policy, NK got nukes.

So I thought today's "comic" was actually funny, although not in the way Tinkley intended.

I'm surprised it didn't say, "I (heart) Mallard Fillmore".

Nice background art as usual, Tinsley. It looks like Kim is standing on a cloud in Heaven.

Tinsley gets PAID to DRAW.

I'll just let that sit out there for a minute.

I really don't understand the point of the T-shirt. Aren't troll dolls usually naked?

Nanny! Good to see you here. I'm actually Muffaroo, but I have adopted the nom "Kip W" for the semi-real world.

Cause KJI certainly didn't spend any of the Bush years trying to provoke the US at all.

Way to not be even at all helpful in any way, Ducky. No, really, you're performing quite the selfless service to your country.

Notice, Ducky doesn't have any suggestions on how to deal with NK, he's just needling Obama because he's a Democrat. Waaaaah, we're not carpet nuking a small country that's adjacent to two of our strongest allies and one of the most powerful countries in the world! Obama's a wuss!

"Tinsley gets PAID to DRAW."

...I wonder? I've always considered it more likely that someone pays the syndicate to run Tinsley's trash.

But the most likely scenario is that the syndicate wants Tinsley in order to agitate the remaining readership one way or the other (though there's an awful lot of text for the average Dittohead mouthbreather), and compared to the "artists" of other "conservative" strips, Drinky The Drunk Guy is friggin' Michaelangelo.

FYI: Cap and Trade (aka Cap and Tax). When you think it can't get any worse, the next day begins and yes, it gets worse.

The premise for cap and trade is false. You can't accuse critics of overstating when you realize what's in the legislation. The more people find out about it, the more they are appalled.

It still must pass the Senate and I think it may. But there are more than a few Democrats worried about their jobs if they vote for this bill.

DaveyK: You certainly do have a fixation with Rush Limbaugh. You seem to mention him the days that I scan your ramblings.

Of course he is a talent, with the most listeners of any radio show ever. His salary is currently well over $50 million per year with an 8 year contract. And his show has been on the air for over 20 years.

But he is of course a conservative which automatically makes him the enemy in the minds of liberals. Most folks know who he is even if they have never listened to his show. It is somewhat futile to argue against his success and not appear foolish.

"It is somewhat futile to argue against his success and not appear foolish."

I could name a few historical figures for whom that was true for a while...but, you know, Godwin's Law and all that. Popularity does not equal being right and only a complete fool would ever suggest it does.

In Rush's case, he has built a cult following that willfully ignores multiple cases of his blatant hypocrisy, because he tells stupid people that THEY are the true intelligensia, that it's everyone ELSE who is wrong, wrong, wrong. It doesn't matter that Rush is wrong, or a coward, or a hypocrite; he declares himself right, with a straight face, in a crowd that won't mock him outright--something of which his followers can only dream.

He's like potato chips; greasy and devoid of real value but oh so comforting and addictive for the weak.

Jazzbumpa said...

Rush isn't a conservative. He's a self-aggrandizing blowhard who has been clever enough to make himself fabulously wealthy spewing anger to the angry, hate to the hateful, and close-minded bigotry to the ignorant.

Conservatives have values. Not so Rush or Ducky.

The difference is Rush is smart and Ducky is just plain stupid.

Frank Stone said...

Yeah, quite a "talent", that Rush...

Only a neocon could lambast someone for mentioning Rush and bring up his popularity in the same paragraph and NOT SEE WHAT IS WRONG THERE.

Public popular figures draw attention. It isn't a fixation to mention someone who is prominently in the media and has issued strong and controversial statements
repeatedly in the new presidency.

Sorry to pick on your god.

About "Cap and Trade -

It worked with Acid Rain and with NOx.

Certainly it's possible that the current CO2 Cap and Trade bill may go badly, because the large corporations so beloved by conservatives want to rip us off again, but the concept of cap and trade has been proven sound.

Twice.
