Those damned brands

What's Mallard raving about today?

School.

It's July. A back to school comic in July makes as much sense as the content of this comic.

"....and then charge you for them, whether you buy them or not...."

I have a rough memory of a character in a Tom Tomorrow strip several years ago: "Pfft! What benefit could I conceivably receive from the education of the next generation?"

I guess Ducky'll just go to the private school sale, so he can disenfranchise students for not being rich and white enough.

Problem: public schools are in trouble.

Solution: defund the shit out of them and instead provide money for batshit Christianists to teach kids about Satanic Darwinist liez.

I don't know how we could have missed this obvious solution for so long.

You all beat me to it. Clearly, if schools are not performing adequately, the solution is to take away all of their funding.

I have to admit that I cannot make this slightest bit of sense out of this strip. WTF is he talking about? Is there a point? Do I nee another drink?

@Jazzbumpa: Don't feel bad, Tin must've dropped out of grade school because the big-nosed liberal teacher conspiracy wouldn't let him speak truth to power. Consequently, his writing skills...lack.

See, it's not a "back to school" sale, it's a "back to PUBLIC school" sale.

In fact, it's a "Back to U.S. Public School" sale. Does Tin think other countries' public schools are superior? (gasp) European public schools? Why does Tin haet America?!!1

"...Stock up on brands that are living off of their obsolete reputations?" Wait, wasn't Tin just crying about the impending extinction of Chevrolet?

I guess he thinks public schools are obsolete.

Because obviously with the economy doing so well, parents can afford to either homeschool their children or send them off to private schools. And our nation is so well educated already that the homeschooling isn't a problem quality wise, and private institutions automatically teach to high standards and include real science (not that fake bible says so = proof "science"). Also, private institutions are all-inclusive and give out scholarships to everyone who could possibly need one. Yep, that renders a public school system obsolete.

@Tog, Tin Eye has always been most comfortable speaking power to truth.

Can't America do as well as Canada, Japan, South Korea, and every major nation in Western Europe?

Tinkley thinks not.

I disagree.

Thank you to the other commentators! I thought Tinsley was bitching about retail stores again.

And by the way, having known some private-schooled and home-schooled kids, I know better than to think that those options are automatically superior to the public option.
