That damned Costume

What's Mallard raving about today?

Liberals, President Obama, Racism.

"Man those Liberals are stupid. Not real Liberals, of course. The ones in my head, though. Scary stupid!"

What, we just get ONE DAY of Nobel outrage? C'mon, Tinsley--you can milk this one for WEEKS. You know you want to.

Because the only racists are the progressives who like Obama.

How's that kicking the KKK out of your state coming along, Indiana?

"Come on, Jewish-stereotype Liberal Strawman Boss! Be more like me! Embrace your bigotry, just never admit to it even while you practice it openly! And when you're called on it, accuse everyone else of it, or declare it extinct! Because being a hypocrite means never having to give a damn about another human being!"

So how much "research" does it take to make a comic nearly the same as last year?

Nice find, Baskerville... not only is the "joke" almost exactly the same, but last year's strip also contains one of those inexplicable "woo"s that are currently my favorite part of the strip.

It's funny because it's in panels with speech balloons and big noses!

It's politically insightful because it's in panels with speech balloons and big noses!

"No, dressing as a Black man is not racist, thus, I can dress up in Blackface." (Bruce Tinsley, screaming at a costume shop employee)

Seriously, though, this comic, and the last have been the rambling of a man justifying his blackface. Tinsley is going to dress up as Sambo this year.

Word Verification: Delept, what I did when every Mallard Fillmore made me want to jump off a cliff.

I think Mallard doth protest to much about this whole racism meme. His projection is becoming more obvious. By the end of Obama's first term Brucie will probably have the token liberal murdering a conservative in a position of authority.

An afternoon of 40-ouncers!

But Kip is right. "Mallard Fillmore" is funny and insightful because it's got big noses and a cartoon animal. What else could the reichwing possibly want?

I just noticed something: Tinsley ended almost every sentence with legitimate punctuation, then, spoiled that streak with an appropriate number of ellipses. Tinsley, one more thing: The use of "?!," though technically accurate, is no longer necessary. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interrobang) I do not know how to write an interrobang on a keyboard, but you, being a neophobe, write everything with quill pens, so that should not be a problem.

Word Verification: Dribi, Tinsley's catatonic state after 20 kegs of tequila. It follows the rambling, delirious state, exacerbated by his retardation, insanity and pure evil, in which he writes comics.

Not to get all metaphysical, but is it even possible, given his own limitations, for Tinshley to write a character who isn't stupid?

I had friends that were Limbaugh fans in college. I made it very clear to them that I really didn't care what they said about blacks, Jews, gays, whatever. This was at the very-libertarian University of Alaska.

But because their script called for all liberals, progressives etc. to be PC censors, that wouldn't do. So they would escalate all the time in a very desperate fashion.

After a while they were talking crazier by far than Strawman Liberal. It really taught me a lot about the dittohead mentality. When the target doesn't act according to the script, cognitive dissonance takes over.

The bonus was, if you'd asked them if they were racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic, they would have been Mallard-offended and said they were just mocking the controlling PC liberals. And the point WASN'T to promote racism, etc., it was to attack the cardboard cutout liberal enemy. Which IS just another variety of the same thing, of course. The flip side of the fact that I've never cared about identity politics is I've never been so guilt-ridden that I thought it was "okay" to persecute someone for their politics, etc. instead of race, gender, etc. After all, the Nazis came for the trade unionists, communists, and social democrats first.

Needless to say, we didn't stay in touch after college. And it was a life lesson, because after that whenever I read conservative complaints about PC authoritarian universities, I have been entirely skeptical - sure, on occasion they're probably reporting correctly, but I saw behavior that doesn't know any bounds of shame or reality-testing.

Also: I love that he's still true to the dichotomy - one day, token liberal is a smug mob-rule Overlord wringing his hands in glee, the next day he's an entirely ineffectual paralyzed wimp.

The only logical conclusion is that Mallard and his fellow Randian supermen are being oppressed by wimps, cowards, weaklings and pantywaists of no intelligence or ability.

Which means either we found a box of kryptonite, or that speaks volumes about their real place in the Great Chain of Being.

If Tinsley is reusing cartoons, I'll reuse my blog comment:

Ha ha! Those liberals are sensitive to race issues!

Mallard only has one line, and he still has to read it?

Hah! You'll have to troll harder than that. (Also, this isn't a cartoon, it's a comic strip.)

I shudder to think how much it must have hurt Brucie's little brain to construct that convoluted train of thought for his strawman liberal. Why, it must've taken at least 4 shots to dull the pain (and not the syringe kind, either)!

I remember Nixon, Carter and Reagan Halloween masks, and they were never worn as a sign of support for the Sitting President, but as a sign of derision and scorn. I doubt anybody wearing an Obama mask would be doing so out of respect.

Given the level of discourse since he was elected, I expect today's presidential mask to include a Hitler moustache, a hammer and sickle, and a fake birth certificate. But it will only be racist if someone objects, and it will be the objector who's the racist! A recent study proved that only people who hate racism are racist*....

Me, I'm going as a teabagger! A giant scrotum that I will demand people put in their mouths! And if they don't, they've proved that THEY IS NAZI COMMIE SOCIALISTS!!! YOU LIKE GUMMINT HEALTHCARE SO MUCH, WHY DON'T YOU MOVE TO HITLERGRAD IN SWEDEN, YOU MORAN!!

Of course you're terrified, Mallard. When your reaction to something isn't contempt, it's terror.

Oh, and you may want to get that lazy eye checked out.

Every Mallard Fillmore should be preceded by a picture of Bruce Tinsley, saying, "I'm not racist." A couple of comedians have pointed out, whenever someone begins a sentence with the words, "I'm not racist," the rest of the sentence is the most racist possible statement. Each month, I see a few Mallard Fillmores more racist than the ones in the last, although, I do not think anyone can be more racist than the idea that racism is a dead concept.

Word Verification: Exodst, Tinsley's ideas are more insane than the things seen when combining acid, angel dust, mushrooms, amphetamine, and D.M.T. to produce exodst.

Watching Ducky talk about liberals and racism is like watching someone one Cops try to tell the officer that that's not their crack, and they have no idea who put it on their dashboard.
