That damned Wheel

What's Mallard raving about today?

Liberals, Wheels.

Richly ironic from someone who only has a job because someone else had the same job.

Also, with the exception of access to affordable health care, I defy Mallard to actually name one concrete example of something which fits this Straw Man agrument.

Liberals: effete sissies or brutal fascists--depending on the direction the wind is blowing through Tinsley's empty noggin.

Also: Jesus Christ, Bruce, knock off the "wooooo..." and stop drawing clubs that look like massive penises.

Happy Holidays!

So is he complaining that Liberals want everyone to be able to share with cutting edge advances? If so that seems an odd thing to complain about.

Woooo... Liberals have big 'clubs'

Conservatives, the early years:

WHEEL AGAINST GOD! THROKNOR SMASH PUNY INVENTOR WITH FIST -- NO, WAIT. THROKNOR GET OTHER CAVEMAN TO SMASH WITH FIST AND NOT PAY FOR BROKEN FIST AFTER! NOW HOW CAVEMAN MAKE MONEY OFF THIS AND KEEP IT ALL? WISH SOME LIBERAL WOULD HURRY UP AND INVENT BEER ALREADY.

I remember how evangelicals were so sure we were wasting money with space exploration and research. I darn near slapped myself into unconsciousness when I saw Pat Robertson smarming on about how the satellite that beamed his garbage around the world was a god-given miracle. No, you ass, it's a result of science that managed to proceed despite your small-minded opposition.

Anyway, I think it was Marty Murphy who did it much better in Playboy, back in the 70s, with a scene much like this. The caveman who has just made a round, roll-y thing out of stone is telling another caveman, "I call it 'Fire.'"

One liberal invented the wheel, another thinks everyone should have access to technology.

Is the punchline that the liberal on the right has a gigantic Felckenschtupper?

I wish the inventor would have repsonded in the next panel "No dumbass, I JUST INVENTED IT!"

If you read this strip without the author's intended disdain, it's not only truthful but heartwarming.

One Early Liberal finds a way to improve his life. The other Early Liberal seeks to ensure that the benefit of that discovery can be enjoyed by all.

So what's the problem here? Is it that there isn't a corporation with a 5,000-year exclusive right to build and sell Wheel to the other 6 billion of us at exorbitant prices?

Yeah! Damn LIBERALS! Don't they know that only RICH people should have access to advances in technology? Next thing you know, they'll be sayin' everyone should be able to get health insurance!

WV: Woosms: Condition which causes sudden involuntary utterances of "woo". Similar to spasms. Afflicts many characters in the comic strip "Mallard Fillmore".

It's like a reprint of his December 13th Sunday strip. Same opening line plus an added woo, then a different, shorter punchline.

Frank Stone nailed it!

Cons believe in classes of society. So- Yes! Only the rich deserve wheels, because Moloch made them better than youse and meese. That's why they be RICH.

(Never mind that whole camel and eye-of-the needle thing - it's a misquote.)

Cheers!

WV: dialliz -- the future of Tinkley's liver, which, ironically, happens to have been an advancement in technology.

Oh my GOD. That is MASSIVE!

And the motion lines... HEY! What are your intentions with that wheel?!

The drawing is symbolic of Tin's desires. The giant, throbbing, large-headed club; the gaping hole in the wheel.

He should just get it over with and take a flying club at a rolling wheel. He'd be less crabby.
