That damned Quota

What's Mallard raving about today?

Jeremy Lin, Higher Education, Racism

You see how Mallard ties this all together into one nice neat, incoherent bow?

As inarticulate, clumsy, and untalented as he is, Tinsley is not wrong in trying to bring to light the discrimination against Asian-Americans which goes on in many institutions of higher learning. It is a shame that his reverse Midas touch curses this otherwise admirable sentiment.

What is the Jeremy Lin "debacle"? In what sense is there a "debacle"?
"Media frenzy", sure. A handful of "sports journalists" and athletes being typically lazy and ignorant. Where's the "debacle"?

I think the "debacle" that Tinsley is referring to is that Harvard allowed Jeremy Lin to graduate and he's also an athlete. See, that makes great sense in a it's-2:30-and-I'm-drunk-off-my-ass kind of way.

P.S. It's great to check in on Tinsley's latest shenanigans after a long weekend and see my name on the front page!

What is the current Tinsley record for the number of repeated strips on the same subject?

They have to base their standards on athleticism, because all that money they stole from the poor through vouchers was spent on the new stadium.

Of course, if all applicants were considered equally, then Bush Jr. would never have been admitted to Yale.

@Toots: Like Steve-O says, the unseen Elitist Liberal is dismayed at the "debacle" of Lin making it through their Liberal Racist conspiracy to keep Asians out.

@8:20AM Anonymous: Perhaps, then, you have evidence that's a bit less bullshitty than Tinsley's.

Again, Tinsley's primary interest in this is concern trolling to attack those damned "liberal" institutions as "elitist" and "racist" and "fascist" and whatever might stick to the wall...not unlike the creeps on my local newspaper's online forum who uses every single crime or accident report as "evidence" supporting their crusade against immigrants, unions, religious freedom, the two-party system, what-have-you.

I wonder if anyone has asked Lin himself how he feels about being used as a brickbat by Ol' Batshit here.

That's how scientific sampling works, right? Guys?
I'm not saying Bruce is right, I'm just saying his logic is missing a certain workability.
Also, way to project the ,'asian people can't play sports' stereotype, Brucie. Thank god liberals are the REAL racists!

@tog: "Who?"

A nation that hates on its elite educational institutions is cutting its own throat.

From what I understand, Tinsley's wife happens to be a civil-rights attorney. Imagine the pillow talk.

On second thought, don't.

I'm trying to figure out what Brews thinks his point is here. I have it narrowed down to:

1) Look, I'm totally not racist - I care about Asians (when they're not eating dogs)!

2) Asian-Americans are oppressed by darker-colored folk plus libruls who are teh real racists, too!

My guess is 2), unless I'm missing something. But I'm baffled as to why he cares about this so much. Is Bellarmine University considered "elite" by any standard?

And does longer odds of getting into an "elite university" correlate with missing out on a good education entirely? It seems like the big issue with higher education these days is the great difficulty of obtaining one without facing crippling debt. I don't get this impression Tinsh cares about that.

However, since this Jeremy Lin fellow apparently plays in the NBA, as an embittered former Sonics fan let me just add: Fuck the NBA, fuck David Stern, and fuck the Oklahoma Shitty Pigfuckers.

I feel your pain, but the Storm remain.

And actually play basketball with skill!
