That damned Mozart

What's Mallard raving about today?

Mozart, Michael Jackson.

This Straw Series has officially reached the completely unhinged state. Mallard's Michael Jackson fever is fueled not by an actual event but by the mere appearance of a prominent Black Man in the news.

On the plus side, I am pretty sure we're looking at a string contender for the 2009 Golden Ellipse for Most Interminable Series or Running Theme.

I feel obliged to link to this parody comic. It about sums up the line of thought here.

Next up on Mallard Fillmore: Anyone who refuses to admit that Michael Jackson is our personal savior, who died for our sins and only by bathing in whose blood can fallen mankind be redeemed, will be literally crucified.

Ok, wow, apparently either Tinsley has a bit of a persecution complex in regards to being called a racist or has somewhat gone off the rails on this issue. I haven't heard anyone called a racist for saying they dislike him or anything like that.

Hell, liberal bastion DailyKOS put out an anti-Jackson article pointing out some of the skeletons in the mans closet. I personally can understand someone getting annoyed by oversaturated coverage of someones death in the news, especially if the person was a very controversial celebrity. However, I saw other comics run with it for a while in ways that were a lot more amusing and on target.

The thing is now that even if he was trying to push the whole hyperbole humor idea it's reached such a point now that it's divorced from any known reality which isn't helped by how out of date it is in terms of news cycles.

Please, god, make it stop.

Competition for Most Interminable Series 2009 is already a murderer's row: collectibles, the 15 Year Celebration (which deserves its own tag, in retrospect) and Michael Jackson.

In his YouTube interview Tinsley mentioned that the time spent on "research and writing (mostly research)" amounts to "80-90 hrs/wk"....

....and this is what he comes up with??

Actually, the middle panel ends up being an accurate commentary on the full comic and this series...

Tinsley has hung onto MJ longer then any of the supposedly no life having fans he has criticized over the last few weeks.

Yeah, I'm sure Tinshley's gotten into many an argument based on the high esteem in which he holds Mozart. He's probably well known at the local bars as the guy who orders a snifter of brandy and holds forth to all who will listen on the relative artistic impacts of Cosi fan tutte versus The Marriage of Figaro. And that's not elitist at all. Also, I'm sure he's well known at the local bars as "no, I will NOT give you my f**king keys!" guy.

I wonder what he'd do if Toby Keith died. Besides research himself into a stupor, that is.

Monday: "The media won't shut up about Michael Jackson!"

Tuesday: "The media won't shut up about Michael Jackson!"

Wednesday: "The media won't shut up about Michael Jackson!"

Thursday: "The media won't shut up about Michael Jackson!"

Editor: "Okay, Tinsley, you made your point. How about you, as part of the media, move onto discussing another topic?"

Friday: "The media won't shut up about Michael Jackson!"

Factinista - Where'd the comic come from? I want to give credit where credit is due.

Wait a second...

Given that:
1]Tinsley has spent a week complaining that "The Media won't shut up about MJ".

2] So far as I can determine, only Tinsley/MF seem to be mentioning MJ...

Does this mean that Tinsley is trying to convince us that MF IS the Media.

Suggestions, like this, of Tinsley's delusions of grandeur might seem a little over the top. But given the solo week-long anniversary celebration that Tinsley gave himself a month or so back, and MF's constant insistence as to how much the strip annoys The Powers That Be --to the degree that appears to be the only thing that they think about-- I'm not quite so sure.

Funny thing is, pretty much most of the people I hang around with are left wing as all hell, and none of them really care about Michael Jackson. Actually, my stepdad is a Marxist, and he hates Michael Jackson.

I think Bruce lives in another reality.

"Coming in at #756,523 on the perpetually expanding list of things that will never be reprinted in a book that anyone will pay cash money for is ... July 30, 2009's Mallard Fillmore"

"That's the stupidest comic strip I've ever read"

"Don't get ahead of me ... July 31, 2009's Mallard Fillmore is #756,524"

RE: Hibyrd -

The cartoonist is a SA goon and has done a whole series of spot-on Mallard parodies. His blog is here:

Isn't this actually the "The Things that Tinshley Thinks Liberals Think Are Racist" list? In which case, his numbering appears accurate.

To my shock, I found that my own thoughts after reading panel 1 mirrored Mallard's statement in panel 2. Then I remembered which strip I was reading.

Thanks, Andy Panderer, that guy is great. He drew one of my favorite political cartoons.

Can you hook us up with a URL with more Mallard parodies? That one was hilarious.

Aha, found it: Mallard Swillmore

For those with more time to kill, there's a larger thread about Republican cartoonists. It links to the Mallard Swillmores, and gives a shoutout to Duck & Cover.

Those are great--the only thing that keeps them from perfection as satire is the fact that the artist is so much better than Tinsley. No chance of BT himself ever reaching that level, even with his vaunted eighty-ninety hours of weekly "research."

Hibryd said...

Wow, he's got down the gratuitous ellipses, head changing color, useless asterisks...

Does that guy lurk here?

To handicap himself, he tried drawing one of them drunk. He still drew better than Tinsley.
