That damned Fall Season

What's Mallard raving about today?

Television.

Strangely enough, someday Historians will look back at the Teabaggers and the Summer of 2009 and wonder the same thing.

Another non-political cartoon? Has Tinsley officially given up his fight for The Cause?

WV: phalin, as in "Tinsley is phalin to be any good at his job". (It also works as a nickname for the former governor of my state, should she decide to make a run for the White House in 2012.)

Yeah, I'm actually starting to worry.

I mean, this time the boneless lardass sinking into his sofa isn't even Mallard, splaying his crotch at us!

Speak to us, Bruce! What has the LIEBURAL CONSPIRASSY done to you!?!

...I have to admit, I chuckled. I'm sorry, I really hate TV, and this is more straightforward than 99.9% of his comics. It actually has a punchline that doesn't get tied up in mindless buzzwords.

You won this round, Ducky.

Ducky: 1

People NOT from the darker, more jaded Cloudcuckooland: 1,312,234,996

I'll give him this, this one is reasonably funny, or at the very least kind of amusing.

HT, Iron Dragon:

Are you familiar with the phrase "Throw enough shit against the wall, something's gonna stick"?

Why is this comic evolving into "Pluggers"? Not that it isn't an improvement.

Lame programs are the results of a free market combined with a lazy consumer base.

Heck, reality TV is at what, Big Brother 8 bazillion? Tell me THAT doesn't rely on a public too lazy to change the channel and too boring to have a hobby besides watching television. Why bother thinking of something original? That costs money.

Jeez, and here I was thinking "man, there's some promising new stuff this season, like the V reboot and Bored to Death and that new sitcom with Joel McHale and Chevy Chase. Plus I need to deal with my newfound addiction to Mad Men, and old stalwarts like The Office, 30 Rock, How I Met Your Mother, and Lost. I might even check out season 8 of 24, provided they promise not to kill off Chloe this season. And my sister-in-law keeps harping on me to start watching True Blood.

In other words, plenty of good TV, Tinshley. Not my fault you can't discriminate (in this sense, at least).

I'm on record as being willing to give Tinsley credit when he doesn't totally suck, but come on, people--this is not one of those days. Regardless of what you think of television, this is just a meaningless, lazy swipe at a generic conservative bugaboo. It's very far away from any sort of cogent and/or clever media criticism.

If only lazy, TV-hating man would get up and read a book or ... who knows? ... go talk with a neighbor!

Mallard Fillmore has no right to criticize anything for lack of artistic creativity.

The pep talk I gave him yesterday clearly didn't work. How much more uninspired can he be? Will he complain about airline food tomorrow?

This is starting to read like Pluggers without the vague charm. Or the odd funny bits.

Maybe he should just give up the politics and do more strips like this. I mean when he's not giving us some over simplified view of the political situation he actually manages to be somewhat amusing.
