That damned Future

What's Mallard raving about today?

The Future, Young People

Ha! Ha! It's funny because today's youth are fucked.

Kids today, with their Facebook memes and their hula hoops and their Kylie Minogues. Amirite?

Especially outstanding "artistry" today. I like how in the first panel the kid is talking with his lips closed tight.

Yep, it's terrifying to think that today's youth are tomorrow's leaders, when today's leaders have been the very model of probity and wisdom.

Tinshley should be frightened.

In his chosen field, there are thousands of young people doing better than he is: with more readers and in many cases making more money, as the old limits of the paper press ... which guaranteed that a talentless hack could make a living by spouting conservative talking points ... gives way to the internet.

For example, Saturday Morning Brekfast Cereal, xkcd, The Trenches ... and thousands more are consistently better in concept, art and writing on every freaking day!

So of course the future frightens the conservative "comic". It should. On the evidence, what it means to be conservative is to be untalented, unpopular and kept alive only by the whim of the Aristocracy.

Here's an actual graduation speech making many of the same points Tinsley's trying to, but with the advantage of being coherent.

Tinsley should look into it sometime.

Kids today, with their damned self awareness, apparent realization of limitations and concerns of what the future may bring as they look to their peers...
