Those damned T-Shirts

What's Mallard raving about today?

Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Grad Students

You know how Mallard bleats about Higher Education and speech codes which he sees as a threat to Right Wing speech?

Well, forget that for a moment, because T-shirts worn by college students is a dire threat to America and must be stopped!

Unbelievable. Okay, let's get it over with...

Reagan, arms and drugs, "freedom fighters," Rumsfeld gleefully shaking Saddam's hand.

That's all historic fact. Unlike Tinsley, I didn't have to pull a turd out of my butt and pretend it was insight.

American grad students = suckers who already subjected themselves to four years of worthless higher education and yet opted to stay for more, possibly so they could participate in the education future generations. That's who Tinsley means, right? Dirty hippies who hate America and want to get their hands on your kids to teach them to hate America too. Make 'em lsiten to Bob Marley and force them to wear Che t-shirts and make them read stuff too!

Is the Che Guevara t-shirt some kind of brand identifier for youth, like Vans sneakers or something? Sure it is. The ideological dimensions are minimal. One could say the same thing about a t-shirt with the U.S. flag or "Navy Seals" splashed across the front. If Tinsley's point was that t-shirt slogans or images are trivial, I'd say right on.

How about a T-shirt of a mallard crapping on somebody's lawn while waiting for handouts? That's pretty much what the ones by our old house did.

Tin has no idea of irony does he? Explains a lot.

Roughly, Castro's kind of a Truther. Which was already known.

Castro was hardly "lamenting" the death of bin Laden--he criticised the way the man was killed. From the UK Guardian, 5 May 2011:

Fidel Castro has accused the US of executing Osama bin Laden, violating Pakistani law and desecrating Muslim burial tradition in an "abhorrent" operation.
Killing the unarmed al-Qaida leader in front of his family and burying the body at sea would multiply "hatred and revenge" against the US rather than make it safer, said Cuba's former president.
"Whatever the actions attributed to him, the assassination of an unarmed human being while surrounded by his own relatives is something abhorrent," Castro wrote in a column published on Thursday in the communist party newspaper Granma.
"Obama has no way to conceal that Osama was executed in front of his children and wives, who are now under the custody of the authorities of Pakistan … whose laws have been violated, its national dignity offended and its religious traditions desecrated."

Another example of tea party distorting the truth.
BTW, can anyone explain Tinsley's hatred of young people and college students?

Short answer: They're people.

Less short answer: They're people who frequently don't live their lives according to the precepts of St. Ronnie and Rush Blimpbutt. Worse, they absorb from their egghead professors Marxist concepts like "thinking for themselves" and "love of learning".

Tinsley hates the young because they use electrical devices while he demands to go back to the days before movable type.

Che Guevarra is the kind of guy Tinsley would support if he was white: A genocidal torturous dictator who helped an even worse man come into power, and who helped destroy the social standards and technology in his country. Che Guevarra did to Cuba what Tinsley wishes he could do to the whole world.

"Lamenting the death..."? Castro voiced concerns shared by many Americans -- including prominent conservatives, and myself -- over the manner of OBL's death. I'd like to think Tinsley is deliberately misleading, but I really think he's too dumb to comprehend any position you can't fit on a bumper sticker.

Regarding grad students, you can accuse them of many things, but buying Castro shirts and rooting for OBL??! Witch-doctor Obama with a bone through his nose thinks that characterization is over the top.

DaveyK, can you update the "Better Comments Than Mine" at some point? It's a little unsettling to see "holocaust" and "lamps" every time I visit the blog.

Just a few questions- do college students still wear Che Guevara t-shirts nowadays? I mean, in an un-ironic way?
And are the "college students' he's talking about the same ones who were outside of the White house after Osama's death, chanting "USA! USA!"? Like the one who was interviewed and said (paraphrasing) "I have a final tomorrow, but i'm here instead of studying for it1 Whooooo!"?

That's what I thought.

Verification: iremicar- Tinsley's explanation for his bsahed-in front bumper. "Iremicar- it wush in m'way, so I remmed righ'inta it."

Andrew, I'm a college student and I don't recall ever seeing a Che Guevara shirt on campus. Or ever.

Granted, I live in Tennessee.

Anyway, college students hate America, Bin Laden and Cuba hate America, so college students love them. The enemy of my enemy and all that.

I think the college student hate started during the '60s. We'd still burn our draft cards if we had 'em, yup. Maybe have premarital sex or smoke some pot too.

The Che reference proves that Tinshley is a real hep cat, who knows what the kids are talking about these days as they play "A Horse With No Name" on their eight-tracks.
