That damned Pledge

What's Mallard raving about today?

President Obama

Let me see if I understand the rules for this election:

  • Attacking President Obama for killing Osama Bin Laden...Our Patriotic Duty
  • Attacking Mitt Romney regarding events at Bain Capital...Totally Unacceptable and Why do you Hate Capitalism, Jerk?

When they got Osama, poor benighted fool me thought "Even the right wing will grudgingly grant him this one." No, they immediately screamed "He killed an unarmed man in front of his children!" Obama could time travel to 1939 and kill Hitler and they'd whine about how "He ended all those jobs at Auschwitz!"

Remember when Dubya went from "Osama: dead or alive!" to "I really just don’t spend that much time on him, to be honest with you"? That took like 6 months. And, of course, Romney's totally not going to say one word about 9/11 all campaign, right?

I think it was mostly the Paulbearers who went with "He killed an unarmed man!"

The rest of Teabaggistan was divided between "He's a secrit Mooslim 'cause he didn't wrap the corpse in pig fat!!!1!!" and "It was Bush's doing, and specifically torture, that led to this!"

Willard, for his part, has been running with "Anyone would have given the order", neglecting to mention that Shrub never got around to doing so, mainly because, as The Splut points out, he didn't look very hard.

Anyway, Brews, if the prez had hijacked an aircraft carrier, pretended to land a plane on it, and played dress-up in a flight suit and codpiece to throw a victory party for himself, would that have been more to your liking?

Ted Rall made the same point, but far better of course.

Haw -- hey, remember the way Brucie laid into Dubya for staging a campaign commercial/photo op to brag about winning the Iraq war before it had even begun? Er -- you did do that, didn't you, Brucie? After all, it's not like you're a hopelessly, transparently partisan hack, right?

Right...?

Because the GOP never ever attempted to take credit for, say, hanging Saddam. It was on the front page of every newspaper: GOP SAYS ANYONE COULD HAVE DONE IT.

It's worth noting that even this strip's main character can't stay awake during it.

Today's "comic" neatly illustrates the Reichwing's tactic against Obama in particular and liberals in general.
When he and/or we do something that all America likes, they inject into the conversation that it's wrong to take credit for it. This is illogical and stupid, but they do it over and over because it works unless you fight back. It's how the Swiftboaters took down Kerry ... he couldn't believe that obvious lies would be believed.
The thing to do is to fight back, not necessarily with any better logic, but with equal firmness.

Bruce Tinsley is complaining because Obama ordered bin Ladn killed. This shows that Tinsley hates America, which is not really news.

It ain't bragging if it's true, slappy.

Osama Bin Ladens Killed
Republicans: 0
Democrats: 1

And you can never take that away. How much does it just burn your ass to think that, Bruce?

The GOP is pissed about bin Laden's execution because they NEED him. They need for the public to be scared shitless all the time. Who are they going to use for a bogeyman now?

Oh, well. HEY, NORTH KOREA!!!

@Kip They keep trying to convince everyone that Iran, 4th-rate ally-less regional power with on the other side of the world, is just days away from being the 4th Reich. I don't think it's selling as well s they'd like, buy B+ for effort.

Well, North Korea fits with the scenario in the Useless Invasion Sketch (vintage off-brand Python from 2003).
