That damned staff

What's Mallard raving about today?

Negative campaigning.

For a duck who spends at least 6 days a week attacking people, Mallard is certainly dainty about negative campaigns.

It's awfully strange that Mallard would make a strip like this during the primary season. For one thing, the candidates will, for the most part at least, unite behind their party's nominee. Not to mention the mudslinging will get about a billion times worse once the field narrows down to two candidates who will inevitably disagree on nearly everything.

I'm soooo embarrassed to admit this, but I actually laughed at today's strip. Okay, smiled more like. But still--there's an actual joke!

Tinny's probably been kicking himself in the ass for two weeks because while this is a surprisingly subtle shot at Hillary (who booted a local campaign staffer for planting baseless rumors of Obama's "drug use"), he forgot to assign this sin exclusively to Democrats/Liberals. Now he's gonna get hate mail from his side, and that's always more violent.

Ut! There it is again! An ellipse following an exclamation point--and both ellipses have four dots. Ah, well. Tinny makes up his own facts; why not make up his own punctuation?

At least, as anonymous said, there's an actual joke (although I'd be more impressed if the "staff" were something a bit more substantial than a fragile branch)...and Mallard's repulsive loincloth (you just know he uses it as a diaper) is hidden by his papers. (Apparently, cavemen had paper but no teleprompters.)

An ellipsis at the end of the sentence which ends with a period (or such a period followed by an ellipsis), appears, therefore, as four dots.

We've had this discussion before, haven't we? Ya get old, the mind goes.

Today's strip technically still violates this rule (The correct way to write it would have been: "I had nothing to do with those attacks on my opponent! ...It was my staff!") and his initial periods look more like commas (",..."), but now I'm just grousing about the small stuff--so I'll just STFU about ellipses.

...At least until Tinny does something completely idiotic with 'em. Shouldn't take too long.

It's punny but it loses its appeal with the reference to the rather annoying primaries.

At least he's knocking both sides. It's possible Bruce is enough in denial to think that the GOPers don't do negative campaigning, but it's there for everyone to see. And it's the GOP pointing it out.
