That damned hatred

What's Mallard raving about today?

Universities.

Right Wing Waterfowl: "But are they the Enemy?...I mean, sure, they hate America....But they also hate Women."

Can I get paid by King Features Syndicate now?

"PERFESSERS HATE MURCA?" Seriously, Tinsley? That's the best you could manage? Even by your debased standards, that's incredibly feeble. The hangover must've been extra-intense that day.

By "they," Batshit is either describing:

(a) ...Muslims in general, in which case he is a ignorant, bigoted liar and trying to be "clever" about it; or
(b) ...al Qaeda, in which case he's merely an ignorant liar and trying to be "clever" about it.

Either way, he's an ignorant liar, but given his own contempt of both women and post-1939 American values (duly documented throughout the history of D&C), I'm going to have to go with "bigoted" and toss in "hypocrite" as a bonus.

Ugh. Why do I subject myself to these shitty cartoons? I'd rather slam my dick in a car door. Real talk.

"Today, class, we have a textbook example of what is called 'the Toilet Paper strategy,' wherein a member of the American right wing professes concern over the treatment of an oppressed class in an enemy nation. To put it simply, they give a shit about women and minorities Over There so that they will not have to give a shit about them over here."

ps: It's his usual god-awful drawing of a straw liberal, complete with specs, crossed eyes, buck teeth, bad hair, ugly tie, and burlap coat. Mostly the quality level we'd find on a bathroom wall, within three feet of the floor. I just wanted to say, though, that that thumb is worthy of Mort Drucker. It's a sheer fluke, but worthy of note. He has to have had a DT shake at the exact right split second for that to happen, and the odds against it are astronomical.

I had to scrape off three layers of lazy to find the dog turd of an idea in this one.

Isn't there some rule of editorial "writing" or whatever this is about making sense? There's just too many assumptions in this comic (and they are ugly, ugly assumptions to boot and you have to crawl around in Tinsley's fevered mind to recognize them.)

Oh and, yeah, right, universities are the ones codifying "the enemy". Keep believing that.

To liven things up, I'll respond to this in limerick form:

There once was a man from go fuck yourself, you talentless, worthless hack who can't distinguish from being clever and topical, with shitting on a wall for attention. For wrap your car around an overpass column and end your pain.
...
Uhh... so the tempo's a little off on that, I'll tune it up.

It's the newest and latest justification for the Bush/Obama genocidal wars. We HAVE to kill Muslims because they don't afford women the civil rights they get in western democracies. That's also why they can't build community centers in Manhattan.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is why we invaded Iraq and why we're beginning our 10th year in Afghanistan: To piss off a bunch of straw man professors.

Cut off your nose to spite your face much, Tins?

Guess who is a college professor now? Retired General Stanley McChrystal

Is he an American-hating Al-queda-lover too?

Goddam Liberal Jew Professors, always doing un-American shit like defending women's Constitutional rights and criticizing America when it violates people's Constitutional rights.

Those eggheads would probably defend "their" rights, too.

(Tinsley can't bring himself to actually SAY "M-sl-m", because he heard at the pub that if you say "M-sl-m" too many times, you BECOME a M-sl-m.)

Did Mort Drucker typically draw people with one hand several times larger than the other...?

word veri: phenven. The controversial diet drug that Bruce's mother was on during his gestation, which was pulled from the market shortly thereafter.

as Kip said "...It's his usual god-awful drawing of a straw liberal...".
Do you suppose Tinshley's been reading Ayn Rand? Old Ayn used to pull the same trick when describing the dreaded ugly liberal, while making her capitalist heroes into walking Greek statues.
When I look around at Rove, Murdoch, Limbaugh, McConnell, I gotta think she's turning in her grave.

Well, that was a rather spastic leap, wasn't it? From "Public skool suuux" to "College perfessers love terrorists 'cuz they both hate America."

Oh, and it finally dawned on me why the lettering in MF is usually so large, as it is here: Because the cranky, ignorant, jingoistic, bigoted, racist senior citizens who are Brucie's target audience can't read text that's smaller than that.

I think there's only one way to respond to this load of bullshit-

FUCK YOU BRUCE TINSLEY

In todays pannel we see Tins battle his inner ID.

Hates America? Check

Hates Women? Check

Today's strip reminded me of a "Tom Tomorrow" cartoon from around 2002 or so, where the (penguin? auk?) is debating some shouting head. It was something like this:

"I'm concerned about starting a second war with Iraq..."
"Why do you hate America so much?"

"I'm concerned about 'infinite detention' of suspects..."
"Why do you hate America so much?"

etc, etc.

I see that Tinsley is willing to speak on Afghanistan, as I infer by his rare mention of women's rights. As has been noted before, he has stated in other mediums as early as Jan 2003 that he's "not personally sold" on the Iraq war
<a href="http://www.associatepublisher.com/e/m/ma/mallard_fillmore.htm ></a>
However, he hasn't mentioned Iraq within the strip in ages. I imagine Mr. "Truth to Power" can well imagine the reaction of his core audience to that.

Others have pointed this out before, but conservatives only cared about the plight of women when they wanted more support for "liberating" people.

(And what Muslim feminists want, especially in Muslim countries, is not what most American feminists think of.)

Besides, strawmen don't care about the women, we only want to defend Islam all the time, so we will use cultural relativism or some bullshit to excuse the fact that we hate America, even the Muslims living here.

Hey, I go back to college soon! I'm sure every professor will talk about how much they love terrorists and hate America. Wait, that's never happened.

Because he is full of shit.

And political comics as shitty as his is should not require a lot of thinking - who hates America again?

Doonesbury can require some memory, it has storylines.

This is bullshit.

And why do they hate America? Did we ever interfere in other sovereign nation's business? Actually, I'm surprised the Afghan people don't hate Russia as well - probably because the USSR is gone but the US is still here.

Do you ever wonder what the world would be like if the Jewish state was not in the Middle East? They had other ideas, you know. South America. Why hasn't anyone written about that? Or have they?

The less thought that goes into his work, the more we talk.

I never yet had a professor who couldn't teach nuance, unlike Dr. Strawman here.

Nuance like this:
Take "them." Them being an unspecified large group of other people. "They" oppress women. However, it is "their" women and not "our" women they oppress when they hate women. So the women are part of "them". Women are capable of bearing children, not sure if Ducky knows that, but anyways, women bear children, male and female children. So now there is a large portion of the population that is the oppressed "women" as well as their children they love and protect.

So even if every last adult male who is responsible for oppressing women hates America as "them" (statistically unlikely because a portion of "them" must also be busy with the immediate concerns of daily life), there is still a majority of "them" that is more concerned with clothes, food, shelter, and childhood.

At least, that's what a college professor would teach, instead of blind xenophobia.

@Kaitlyn - my understanding, from talking with a few Afghan law professors (who BTW do not hate America even though they may oppress women) is that the Russians as a group are very much not popular in Afghanistan for obvious reasons.

This is not to deny any of the other good points others have made; the ability to nuance is a virtue!

Thanks, Rewinn! It makes a lot of sense.
