For those of you wanting some sort of data point on who exactly Walter Williams is and what kind of person Mallard desires to be President, I offer the following from an article he wrote on January 24, decrying The Weather Channel (stop laughing, I'm serious...The Weather Channel) for a series entitled "It Could Happen Tomorrow:"
The environmental extremists' true agenda has little or nothing to do with climate change. Their true agenda is to find a means to control our lives. The kind of repressive human control, not to mention government-sanctioned mass murder, seen under communism has lost any measure of intellectual respectability. So people who want that kind of control must come up with a new name, and that new name is environmentalism.I feel comfortable saying that level of discourse speaks pretty much for itself.

I said this:
"Sir,
If you read Mallard Fillmore by Bruce Tinsley, you'll know about his desire for you to declare your candidacy for the republican nomination for president in 2008.
If you don't, there's a link to this week's strips at the end, which started with a warning that he will threaten an African American, the media should take notice.
I thought it would have something do with Barack Obama, but instead he picked you, probably because you've subbed for Rush Limbaugh and are conservative. I don't know anything about you, sorry.
Do you know Tinsley personally?
Have you been talking about running for president?
Are you okay with this week's strip?
Are you okay with today's, which published your e-mail?
Are you going to respond to Tinsley?
The Jewish World Review archives the Monday-Saturday strips, but they don't have this week's up, so all I can do is give you the Seattle PI links.

Tuesday - http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/fun/mallard.asp?date=20070130

Monday's strip made me think he chose you primarily for your race.
I also apologize profusely if you've been inundated by e-mails on this subject, taking you away from your real work!
By the time you get this, you'll probably be so sick of the topic, I'll just get a form letter.
Thank you,
Kaitlyn
PS - I wouldn't vote for you if you did run, I disagree with a lot of your views, but I am honestly curious.
PPS - That wasn't meant as an insult - we're all entitled to our own beliefs. I am genuinely curious about this.
Thank you, again, and sorry if this is annoying as it's the nth letter you've recieved on the subject."
I have yet to receive a response, but it's the weekend.
I received this reply:
Dear Mr. Melin:
Professor Williams received your email and since there were hundreds, he asked me to send you this reply:
"I am so flattered by the confidence of so many of my fellow Americans
who, for many years, suggest that I toss my hat into the ring as a
presidential candidate. I've consistently refused to do so for the
simple reason that to be successful in any high political office would
require that I rise *above *principle and do the "right" thing. I'm not
ready for such a heady trek. I think that I'm far more valuable to my
fellow Americans by remaining out of the political arena and therefore
retain the capacity to be forthright, honest and politically incorrect.
Best wishes and keep the faith.
P.S.
You might find the material at my site below to be of interest and use."
Best wishes.
