That damned ACORN

What's Mallard raving about today?

ACORN, Barack Obama.

When an article starts like this, you know it's going to be a fair-minded recitation of facts and not an axe-grinding right-wing smear.
What exactly does a "community organizer" do? Barack Obama's rise has left many Americans asking themselves that question. Here's a big part of the answer: Community organizers intimidate banks into making high-risk loans to customers with poor credit.
The Party of Personal Responsibility continues to deny any responsibility for what happened while it was in power of every branch of the Government.

If true, that would mean they are an incompetent bunch of spineless idiots. If not true (also know as "in reality") Republicans suck at managing the economy while Democrats are pretty good at it. But, of course, reality has a well-known liberal bias.

Either way, sucks to be a Republican, although not as much as it sucks to be living under Republicans.

It's cracking me up to see ACORN turned into this huge bogeyman by the Right. ACORN supposedly caused the world financial crisis, and is now working to steal the election by turning in voter registrations for Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Pretty good for a ragtag group of low-income and homeless advocates who get by on $20 contributions.

The publicity they are getting out of this is probably the best thing that ever happened to them.

I think I've discovered where Tinsley gets his material (well, besides the booze). Go to the John McCain website, and read the comments in the blog.
All the McCain supporters' comments read exactly like a Mallard Fillmore strip. But without the benefit of proofreading.

Here's the link to the New York Post article M. Canard is referring to in today's laugh riot.

I've always been confused as to why Fillmore is a duck. Wouldn't it make more sense for him/it to be a poo throwing monkey or a mud slinging pig? The eponymous (let me know if I misused that word) protagonist refers to Millard Fillmore, the last Whig and unsuccessful candidate of the "Know Nothing Party." I guess that last part does refer to Tinsley.

Tinsley misspelled "McCain" again - after all, it was McCain who keynoted an ACORN conference.

A little research would uncover Mitt Romney's connection to ACORN, and that of Governor Crist (R-FL) ... and practically the whole Republican establishment.

Tinsley may be right that the Media isn't giving this the coverage it deserves, but not in the way he thinks.

Guy Fawkes - You're spot on with the Know Nothing Party aspect of Tinsleyworld!

As to the question "Why A Duck?" it seems to me that our typical cartoon duck, such as Daffy Duck and the earlier Donald Duck (before the Disney company made their critters bland and boring) is:

* Full of rage
* Inarticulate and prone to violence
* Constantly outwitted by his more evolved mammalian antagonists.

So "maverick"="reliable purveyor of Republican talking points?" Who knew? I mean, aside from anyone even cursorily following the McCain campaign?

"Why a Duck?"

Guys! I thought this must have come up long before I joined the team, so I never mentioned it.

Another word for "duck" is "canard".

Another meaning of "canard" is "A deliberately false or misleading report or story".

Need anything further be said?

There's absolutely a reason the media is attacking Palin, but unfortunately for Mallard, it's not liberal bias. The media's angry at the McCain campaign for barely allowing any access whatsoever to a politician most Americans know nothing about. They worried that she'd be treated unfairly by the mean ol' liberal MSM, but by pulling this stunt it became a self-fulfilling prophecy.

If the Republicans want Palin to be treated objectively, they need to stop treating her like some fragile piece of eye candy and let people learn about her.

The MSM just got scarier, as it is coming to us via floating cyborgs. Meanwhile, Mallard is on a stripper's pole, doing the Saturday Night Fever dance.

This futuristic dystopia is too much before my morning coffee.

Thanks to whomever mentioned The Giant Pool of Money here a few days ago. It is the clearest explanation of the financial crisis I've heard yet.

I think I saw the exact same story and punchline:

This strip is very surreal, but does not entirely surprise me.

He mentioned Palin!

And the fact that the media is covering her. I wonder why they're doing it. Could it be the fact that non-Alaskans just heard of her about a month ago?

I remember this guy in my English class who said do away with affirmative action, because he had faith in people. He knew they'd hire the right person for the job, race or sex be damned! Unfortunately, we're not there yet. And people who have traditionally been voiceless and underrepresented get a voice and then they're told to shut up.

Question - if it was all the poor people's fault, how come they're not getting any of the bailout? It's just the banks. That's not fair.

I saw something today that would piss Mallard off - signs all over campus offering rides to the polls. That's just awesome, you know?

Conservatives hate it when people work together. Unions, community organizers. Mallard Fillmore really confirms your worst fears about fringe conservatives.

That article sounds more like an op-ed piece. Everyone's a maverick in the op-eds.

And if he's the only one to mention this (before Mallard bravely spoke out), why have I heard about this elsewhere?

Kaitlyn said...

One more thought: the banking elite and the guys in the smoke-filled rooms don't want to change their practices, after all, they worked for so long, they couldn't possibly have contributed to the current problem!

"Let's find a scapegoat. Something new... something with minorities or poor people... ah! ACORN did it! Community organizers did it! Barack Obama did it! And he says he can fix it? Ha!"

CORRECTED COMIC

TV: We were wondering if you all would like to see a picture of a very happy John McCain attending a meeting sponsored by Acorn back in 2006.* ...

... But since the photo was only released two days ago, and cartoonists have a 2-3 week lag getting their strips to their publishers, it wouldn’t be fair to Tinsley, who is trying so hard to make ACORN = DEMOCRATS = OBAMA.

Mallard: I probably won't even get that news until after the election.

Hey, thanks to everyone who recommended the "Giant Pool of Money" segment. After seeing it mentioned here a few times I finally checked it out! Great coverage of the whole thing!

I also can't help note that Tinsley's use of the word "dish" appears to be his way of telling us he thinks the media is gay. Maturity FTW!

The ACORN scandal is completely fake anyways. The "Mickey Mouse" type registrations were put into a different stack marked as questionable or invalid registrations. The state then goes through these marked stacks and makes the final decision on each voter registration. In other words, they operated exactly like every voter registering place does.
