That damned Press

What's Mallard raving about today?

Barack Obama, The Press.

Depending on who you believe, Barack Obama takes office with a favorable/unfavorable of 71-16 or so, with his favorability rating growing sharply during the transition.

So, Mallard, it is not just "The Press" who need to join your made-up little self-help group.

At any rate, to avoid congestion at meetings, I suggest we target self-help toward the 16% instead.

Because if there is not already a self-help group for hate-driven cranks, people who want to deprive everyone of optimism in order to make everyone's existence as wretched as their own, there ought to be.

Mallard has apparently made his peace with the liberal media. He has only used support groups in the past to mock the idea of support groups because he thinks that people don't really need them.

"Hi, my name is Bruce, and I'm another Republican who thinks that Obama is the literal Antichrist and who is desperately searching for his secret Nigerian birth certificate."

If only our "illustrator" (mean quotes!) had chosen to take a cue from the writers at SNL. When they criticized the press for Obama infatuation they used humor, as opposed to today's well-worn lameness.

The duck thinks worshiping a President is a form of sickness - unless of course it's Ronald Reagan.

Nice choice for inauguration day, Tinsley.

Honestly, there is a "too much hero worship" joke to be made today, as millions gather in Washington to see Obama sworn in, but you missed it completely.

I'm glad he's wearing a name tag that reads "Bob". Otherwise I would have had no way of knowing that his name is Bob.

Those many "i"'s in a row look like representations of people on a USA Today graph.

The sad part is that he had a lot of other material options for today. He could have simply done a non-partisan thing where he talks about a major historical event for our country. Or maybe he could have cynically commented that he hopes Obama doesn't screw things up worse. The media worship thing feels strange when so many weird rumors that got circulated were picked up, they were shut down but that's as much a result of focused liberals trying to avoid another Swiftboating incident.

And of course, how could the media be interested in a charismatic person who speaks fairly strongly (ums and errs aside) and is also our first black president? I mean it's not like he's a major historical precedent as well as someone who could garner media attention through their natural abilities anyhow. Or who could pack football stadiums to capacity for one of his speeches.

Ignoring the inauguration (an event that is not only extremely significant to our great nation but was also scheduled far in advance) in favor of complaining about the media (which not only repeated crazy attacks based on people only slightly related to Obama, but is now merely responding ... as good freemarket capitalists do ...to the something the public is vastly interested in) ...

... Mallard has truly jumped the snark.

Compare today's Mallard to today's Prickly City, another conservative strip. Tinsley could take some lessons in simple class from Scott Stantis. I don't always like Prickly City, but it's a far better conservative strip than the moldy,one-trick-pony mallard.

Right now (1:00 P.M.), I'm watching Marine One take off with the Bushes inside and I can only imagine that Tinsley is angrily throwing back shots.

I don't dislike Tinsley because he's conservative, (everyone has the right to their opinions) its because he's a bitter prick who can't accept reality.

Congratulations America, you now have a president you actually like.

... Why this is supposed to be a bad thing, I'll never understand.

MF could have shown a tiny smidgen of class with a non-partisan appeal to history or a prayer for our new president or something. Instead, it's Chapter MCMLXVII of how mad he is that Obama gets good press. Reagan got great press most of the time too, and the liberals didn't kvetch about it all the time (Actually, they did, but I want to be magnanimous.)

Today Former President George W Bush said....

(Actually, there's nothing more to this. I just enjoy saying "Former President George W Bush".)

NLC: tell me, 8 years ago, were people this excited about getting Clinton out of office? People who'd grown up during his 8 years without voting for him or any other presidential candidate and just got to vote in 2000...

Was there that excitement?

Or was it all dashed by the recount that never ended?

Kaitlyn said...

That wasn't just to NLC, that was to all you old fogeys who weren't 12 when Bush took the oath, and didn't give a damn about politics yet because you didn't have to.

Marion Delgado said...

eh? Eh? Kaitlyn you young, impertinent ... why, I never!

I think I accidentally voted for that ... Democrat, is that what you call them ... because I saw that woman ... the one with the hair and so on ... with a G ... on the TV ... and I asked, what did that ... Clintner? Clanton? fellow do to her?

And a man standing by the TV display at the Walmart said ...
"Plug 'er!"

So I thought I was voting for one of my own!

Oh, the missus says I voted for that Nader guy instead, because I thought he was the coach of the Raiders ... well, natural mistake ... but you were asking about that young Bush boy ... I was so excited he wanted to take on the family business I voted for him .. and made the missus vote for him ... the weather is so much colder now, isn't it, that vice president couldn't have been more wrong, could he? ... the missus is shaking her head .. yes, we watched the inauguration and we put away most of a bottle of Cold Duck, girl! It was more exciting than New Years watching the ball drop ... easier to stay up for ... hope that answers your question ... what was I going to say?

Ah! If I could get out of this rocker, girlie, I'd smack you with this cane ... or maybe not ... how many cookies did you say you wanted us to buy?

Kaitlyn said...

I wasn't being bitchy or anything in my question, and it could have applied to the '93 inauguration of Clinton.

People say America hasn't been this excited, but we have a tendency to forget our own history (except for blowjobs!!!)) rather quickly, so I wanted confirmation from those of you, er, old enough to remember and care at the time.

It was an earnest question! No insult meant.

Kaitlyn - I have never seen such a happy Inaugural Crowd!

Maybe my memory is warped by having preferred Gore (...who, after all, DID get more votes nationwide and, had it not been for Katherine Harris' manipulations, would've gotten more Electoral Votes as well...) but Bush's approach has always been more triumphalist rather than unifying. I understand that, on the way to the 2nd Inauguration, Bush's car was egged.

Tuesday was a great day for all America; even most Republicans are happy if though their guy lost. Let's hope this era of happyness gets us through the tough times ahead!
