Those damned predictions

What's Mallard raving about today?

Freedom of Speech, Oprah, Barack Obama.

Nominating Oprah to the Supreme Court would be as absurd as, say, President Bush nominating Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.

And since Mallard never moaned about that, obviously it must never have happened.

Oh, wait...

So, Mallard isn't bitter.

See, bitterness would involve bringing up the same few issues instead of finding new ones, like harping on Oprah, bringing up the journalists, and still talking about the race card.

Ooops.

Really? Tinsley wants to talk about the people a President permits into his press conferences?

Really?

It's about time that somebody acknowledged Republicans as the fearless defenders of First Amendment rights, and Mallard is just the one to do it. In his next strip, he shows how Republicans have joined with the ACLU to defend First Amendment rights on antiwar protests, flag desecration and the separation of church and state.

Also, I love the way that the Oprah Supreme Court gag is split so badly as to be almost incomprehensible.

How the Hell does Oprah have a hectic schedule? All she does is interview idiots, like herself, laugh at them, write insincere publicity stunts off of her taxes and pretend to care about the poor. She has a really easy job, where the only chllenge is keeping a straight face while claiming that she just wants to help everyone and does not care about profitable publicity. Fuck Oprah.

President Bush, Jr. did not throw reporters out of his press conferences; he, instead, forced them to read prepared questions and responses.

So much is silly about today's strip! But the prize HAS to go to his splitting the Oprah joke in two.

As 12xuser noted, it made the joke incomprehensible. In fact, the way the thing is laid out, it looks like he's PRAISING Oprah for being a "consummate multitasker". Putting the attack on her in pure text (no illustration) and on the far side of the next line means that most Tinkley fans won't connect it. "Heck of a job, Tinkley!"

The last joke starts with a lie: some conservative reporters didn't get a spot on Obama's campaign jet, which is very different from kicking all conservative reporters off his plane. But so what? at least Obama will have press conferences. In fact, he's been very good at talking ON CAMERA with his ideological opponents, such as Rick Warren and Bill O'Reilly.

Bush, OTOH, was afraid of Helen Thomas!

So because Oprah endorsed Obama she'll get a seat in government? By that logic there's a list of dumb celebs that would have been in McCain's government.

But we all know how McCain and Bush would never appoint their buddies to government instead of experienced people... LOL. Wait, this comic is funny after all!

Nick, have you ever seen anything to suggest that Mallard objects to conservative prostitutes pretending to be media people?

We may have just cleared up the question why Mallard doesn't wear pants.

Also, we can add "90-degree angle thumb" to the Penis Chin Memorial List of nonsensical features of the Obama caricature.

Am I the only one slightly impressed with his drawing of that woman next to his Oprah description?

She does not look like a gorgon, though she doesn't look the slightest bit like Oprah. (She does look like someone though, for real, and I can't place the face.)

I, for one, am shocked.

And he's not going to make Oprah anything, he'll put Ellen up first because she's a lesbian and he figures that's the only way to get an Arrested Development movie.

Robert,

I know this isn't strictly Tinsley's fault, but how in high holy hell did the guy who colors in the Sunday strips think that coloring Oprah and Obama gray would be a good idea?

Unless it is Tinsley's fault and he's implying that they're extraterrestrials. Stranger things have happened, and this is Tinfoil Tinsley we're talking about here.

I thought it was a bad Beyoncé. It took me a while to figure out why a bad Beyoncé would offend somebody, and why the punchline was... Oprah?

I'm reminded of James Joyce: "The demand that I make of my reader is that he should devote his whole Life to reading my works." Maybe this is what Tinsley's aiming for.

And yes, I feel dirty for suggesting any kind of connection between James Joyce and Bruce Tinsley.

OK, I haven't been a reader long, so may someone can help me out...

Since this cartoonist dislikes the IDEA that Obama will exclude conservative reporters, does that mean he was railing against the REALITY of the Republicans attempting to keep liberals from having any input into national policy a few years back?
