That damned Rating

What's Mallard raving about today?

Television, Vampires.

Shorter Mallard Fillmore: Turning of the TV is too hard.

Forget turning it off; Mallard can't even be bothered to turn the channel. Like most wingnuts, he appears to be addicted to outrage--and the more ludicrously trivial the object of that outrage, the better.

Batshit makes (what for him constitutes) a supreme effort to freshen up the art by pointing Mallard's groin away from us for a change.

While I appreciate less duck-groin in my face, it doesn't hide the fact that this is the strip from the day before yesterday, not even warmed up in the microwave.

If it's PG, then it's the Vampire Diaries and not True Blood he's watching?

Someone's a little obsessed with underage females. Hey, duck, it's not gathering research, it's just being creepy.

Ducks, this isn't fun if you're not even going to try.

Are there shows with gratuitous vampires? The only ones I know of have vampirism as a central concept of the show. Oh, sorry, I'm assuming Tinshley understands English that's subtler than "you're cut off" or "step out of the car."

I'm reminded of an Oscars ceremony I saw years ago, hosted by Johnny Carson. At one point, Don Rickles came on and did about five minutes of his trademarked scattershot insult comedy. Then Johnny came back out and said, "Ladies and gentlemen, Don Rickles! Don just breaks me up with his joke."

Ladies and gentlemen, Mallard Fillmore!

I was wondering why Mallard's mirror was talking to him. Then I realized there was no reflection in the mirror. Mallard's a vampire!

Don't insult vampires, unless you're saying Mallard is one of the emo ones who glitter and stalk girls in their bedrooms.

Otherwise, MF would either have to be much funnier or tougher in order to match up with the other examples.

Turning OF the TV -- onto its side, so it's taller than it is wide and the coaxial cable is sticking out the side -- is actually not too hard.
